Hi Friends,
How long is a short tongue on a vintage trailer?
What would be an appropriate length tongue on a trailer with a 15' body that's 86" across?
Do you measure the tongue from the center of the coupler where the ball fits in and go straight back, or do you measure along the rail from the front skin to the center of the coupler?
Thanks,
Rod

Not sure of what's appropriate but on my old traveleze the body is 15' long and 92" wide and overall is about 17'5". From what i can tell they called it a seventeen footer. Seemed to handle real nice when i brought it home.

I measure mine straight back at 41". It's a slightly different frame design, with 2 bends instead of 1 and it accommodates a propane tank and battery box both in line with the tongue.

My 62 Forester tongue is 36" off the camper straight back. Same with our 59 Airflyte.
Both need a hitch extender with our Tundra.

Hi Friends,
Thanks for the tongue reference lengths.
This helps a lot. I forgot to measure the length straight back on my Rod and Reel, so I can respond within a few days when I get over to where it's parked.
Cheers,
Rod

Hi Friends,
The tongue on my Rod and Reel was was extended by 13" to 41".
I estimated the original tongue was only 28".
I measured center of the coupler to the body.
I am,learning, you can extend with a draw bar to make an easy non, welding extension, like NC Camper did with his Shasta back in 2014.
I wish my PO had opted for such an easy fix.
