Hi Friends, I bought some new teardrop marker lights through VTS. They arrived today. The marker lights that are on the trailer now are 80's oval shaped marker lights. These are mounted on a 1955 travel trailer. The original 3 teardrop holes are already there. Someone drilled new holes for the oval marker lights. One of them exceeds the mount pattern by 1/8". What size and length screws are recommended and where can I find them. It's hard to find any screws that are 1/4" which I suspect are the length to use. Do we back the mounting plates with 1/8" or 1/6" thick butyl tape? Thanks, Rod

You may be able to "patch" the unwanted holes using JB Weld. A little fill in the holes, then build it up to a point where it can be filed down smooth, it is not that difficult to disguise it with a little paint and the near proximity of the markers.
I believe, especially if there are backers where the lights mount, that you can use a #8 X 3/4 metal screw. I used stainless screws for the markers on the 16SC. These were not the teardrop style markers, but I think it was something close on the teardrops on the Airflyte also.
I also used the same putty tape that I used for all the other openings. I believe it is 1/8". You can work it so that it "fits" the lights, sorta like play-doh.

Thanks Ten!
There are no backers behind the running lights. The mounting holes on the new teardrop lights are small. I am hoping that the holes in the skin match up in diameter to that of the hole diameter on the teardrop lights. Crossing fingers.
Did you pick up the stainless screws at your local big box home improvement center, hardware store, or online?
Thanks

The holes in the marker lights may be just pilot holes, and might need a little encouragement to allow for the screws. I would be most nervous about the screws tightening enough to provide the ground for the lights. Are you running a separate ground wire? Here is what is left of my screw collection... The sheet metal screws are zinc coated, and have the hex heads which matched the screws in the SC. The stainless are Philips heads. I did find both also available in 1/2-inch lengths, and those got used up. I found them in the local stores, True Value stores I think, at I believe about $6 a box. If you are planning on using lots, as in a rebuild, there are other places to get bulk prices.
