So, we spent most of Thanksgiving taking apart our 1975 Scotty Hilander, we now have some wood, the windows, skin and a few other assorted pieces. The guy at our dump is wondering what we are up to. The trailer is off to my favorite welder for inspection an repair. I have not been able to locate any descriptions about how to join the pieces of plywood that will be the first layer of the floor. I have seen people use metal joiners on the side walls but I'm not sure if that is the most appropriate way to do it. We are planning to paint this layer with bedliner. Also, I see that there are a variety of opinions about the kind of wood to use, from marine plywood, on, any thoughts on that would be appreciated as well. Thanks to all, Larry larryscottyhilander.blogspot.com

I'm going to be restoring an all plywood camper this coming year and will be using Biscuits to join the pieces together. That's the way Ross does it and what Ross says is right and proper.

Another new skill to learn, biscuits it is! I may be misunderstanding what you are joining. I'm talking about joining plywood edges to each other. Are you talking about fastening the plywood to the steel chassis? If so you use Carriage Bolts through the plywood and chassis, Elevator Bolts (better) or T Nuts and bolts... I just made a video about that... youtu.be/aLZhLqANAJ4

I'm working on a camper with solid plywood sides. I decided to use tongue and groove plywood with liquid nails run down the groove as it goes together. I've not joined the pieces together yet, but I plan on getting to that point in the next week or so. I guess it's like one big lonnnnnng biscuit

larryb, on my Scotty, I used tongue and groove plywood on the floor. Coating the bottom side with Fence Post paint from Tractor Supply. The side walls, I used a spline bit on my router, making a groove on both pieces of plywood. Then I cut a spline(tongue)to fit the whole length of the plywood. Gluing it all together. My Scotty had 1/2" side walls. I decided to go with 3/4". Therefore I had to route out the difference where the walls meet the floor, as well as the wheel wells so the width of the trailer didn't get too wide to re-use the old metal.
