First, thanks to all of you who have posted. We have been devouring this and the Scotty rebuilds obsessively. I have put up a blog.... with a short video to get started. larryscottyhilander.blogspot.comI don't know how to create a link yet, sorry. It is a total takedown and while my wife is feeling positive, I am a bit overwhelmed, but here we go. Our goal is a retirement road trip in August 2017. I know I will need some help, so thanks in advance. Larry

Welcome Larryb! A few of our members have Scotties, I'm sure they will chime in. The plywood walls aren't too bad once you get the trailer apart...

Welcome larryb. Yah, a little rot there, but nothing we all haven't seen before. Unlike a house remodel, your Scotty only has a few hundred pieces to it so no worries. We'll be here if you need us.

Welcome! I'd call that demolished. Hopefully you know where all the pieces go.

Only time will tell...... :-) Actually, I think we spend almost as much time looking at the construction and talking about how we are going to put it back as we did taking it apart.

Hi Larry, sorry I'm late welcoming you to the group but I hope you have lots of luck with your rebuild. I went over and looked at your blog and saw that you were having trouble pulling screws from your awning rail. I know this can be replaced, but if it isn't mangled too badly you can use this cool little tool to get the screws out: www.amazon.com/Vampire-Professional-Tools-International-VMPVT-001/dp/B006YJKAPQAlso I saw you mentioned your wife was going to start working on the windows. I'm doing that right now, replacing every seal and gasket on them because after 59 years ours are toast. I strongly suggest that you take a look at the videos mobiltec, and member here, has put out. He has a whole series dedicated to restoring windows and they have really been a big help. You can find a list of all his videos on his website cannedhamtrailers.com . He's been restoring trailers for years and his videos have really been a huge help to my husband and I. Also, if you want to post pics of your progress on the forum there's this great tutorial showing how: vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/7276/add-photos-hosted-flickr-tutorialSo like I said, welcome to VTT, there's lots of really helpful people here who have been or are where you're at.

Hi Larry, I too have a 1975 Scotty Serro. It was a total demo, start from scratch,Frame up. I have been working on it for about 2 years off and on (time and money). I too spend more time looking and thinking than actual work. You always have to think 5 steps ahead because one action can effect something down the line. You can do it, just be patient and take lots of pictures and measurements. I will say that a few drinks during the process works as well.

Thanks everyone, I bought the tool and it was great for the twisty nails but not the very rusted square screws, will definitely check out the window videos, had a great lesson today from Robert at Vintage Trailer Shop, so far everyone has been great. Kamhawk, how about some pictures of your progress?
