Nice looking trailer. Glad the videos helped! Thank you. I spent the cold winter watching your videos and restoring the interior in the garage. In the spring, I dragged the trailer into the garage and peeled it down layer by layer to the frame .

The box is about 13 1/3 feet. My 63 is the same layout and size. 16' all in. I noticed your magazine rack above the Goucho. The 63 has the rack attached to the wardrobe side . Foresters came in narrow body ( 14' ) and wide body (16' +). The narrow ones have lights on one wall and the wide have lights on both walls . Do you have a flip up table attached to the wardrobe? www.flickr.com/gp/145867801@N04/18v541

There are turtorials for both photobucket and Flickr in the Rules section. vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/board/19/forum-rules-support-infoWelcome! I own a 62 Forester I'm restoring now. How did you find so many? There are so few of them still out there. Impressive. I would really like to see the photos. All but one trailer I found on craigslist. Untitled by dhandkey, on Flickr Untitled by dhandkey, on Flickr Untitled by dhandkey, on Flickr This '63 had a rough life. But can you guess what I paid for it? Probably $249 too much. The guy I bought it from had already strengthened the box with 2x4s. This one may have imploded without it! Can you get a pic of the spacer box next to the goucho on yours? mine is missing. Forester made the 16' and larger models 6" wider than the 14' models and used the same width goucho cushions for models.

Mine is 6" wider with the same cushion. Very roomy.
How far did you have to travel to get so many of the same brand? A lot of out of state road trips?
I bought my forester in Indiana. I've also owned a Shasta compact I bought at the Utah border, a Shasta Airflyte I bought in Maine, and a Shasta 1500 I bought in Alabama.

Nccamper I know you always say there arent any good units here in this part of the country. Totally agree with you. Several months ago I was shocked to see several Shasta Compacts in a 300 mile radius from me. Hasn't happened since.

I search a 250 mile radius from my house . I have notes on trailers in the weeds on country roads but have yet to successfully make a purchase when I stop by and make contact. I get told stories about how attached they are to the trailer , and there it sits, outside under a tree rotting! I'm sure it's a numbers game and I will succeed after the proper number of snubs!

The Kayot looks like it's in great shape ! Not having to pull the vent and axel to garage a trailer is a great time saver! I am fuzzy on the Kayot /forester relationship. Kayot trailers were made in Mankato, MN, 75 miles north of Foresters forest city IA plant. I think in '69 or '70,? all of foresters small trailers became Kayots. my info is incomplete here ! Not important to know unless you become obsessed!!!

We have become a little obsessed and joined the Vintage Forester Facebook group where there is a wealth of information including manuals, brochures, files etc, etc. There is even a member who was a key employee for the company way back when and he still owns a prototype for the 16 L and she is a beauty....garage kept all these years. Here is a bit of interesting information regarding the whole Kayot Forester name thing from the son of the fellow who worked for the company: In the very late 1960's, the men who started the business were at retiring age, and sold the company to Kayot. Kayot made pick-up campers and motorhomes in Indianola, IA and house boats, pontoon boats and canoes in Mankato, Minnesota. For first year or so they continued to brand the travel trailers as "Foresters" but around 1970 they insisted on putting "Kayot" as their brand, even on the travel trailers made in Forest City. There were very loyal Forester club members who were repeat customers and well established Forester dealers who complained and sales dropped, and so around 1973 or so, they changed the brand to Forester by Kayot - and got the name Forester back on the travel trailers. Unfortunately, it was too little too late, and their reputation was tarnished and the 1970's gas prices helped lead them to bankruptcy. If you are not already a member of the group, they would love to have you...... I poured over the Forester info. Looks like 1968 was the last year of the standard size 14' Forester trailer. In 1969, the cub was the only small trailer under 16 ft. . I'm still amazed they kept the classic canned ham shape for that long and kept going for a few more years with cubs and 16' plus sizes.

So glad that you joined the Forester Facebook group......you will be an asset to everyone with all of your restoration experience. Isn't it awesome to have all that Forester literature available? Our little 1971 Kayot Forester 14 Lowliner is on the last page of the 70-71 (Theres Nothing like a Kayot Forester) brochure.....it shows specs for the three smaller models available at that time....16 regular and the two Lowline models....the 16L and ours which is the 14L. (Ours has more windows than the cubs that are featured in the 1969 brochure....we have the additional small Hehr windows on the top side of the coach near the back) Both my hubby and I are not super tall people so we have no headroom issues in our 14L although it was quite humorous when a friend came for a visit and had to bend over to walk inside the camper......
