Soup My talk with the weatherman must have worked we only appear to have one or two limbs down here but the other side of the airport (Vandalia) has buildings down and all kinds of fun things. We had a lot of rain but the wind only lasted about two minutes around 11:20 last nite.

They just said that it was a tornado that hit Vandalia last night, that makes me fell real lucky glad it missed here. That is about the third or forth tornado that has hit this area in my life time. they usually go either north or south of here.

WOW! It sure sounds like we got lucky. That would explain the downed buildings. Glad your Okay.

Nice work…kind of miss having that project. Thanks for saying but nothing like the work you do! I'm so not worthy LOL You might as well get another project IF you can find one. Probably wont be an aluminum ribbed Barth but what the hey! I've been looking for the last 2 months, can't find anything around here cheap enough for me. Get a compact same year as your camper and build it like yours for a mini-me. Soup, thanks…You’re a machine cranking these out and from what I’ve seen you do them right. It’s a matter of how far you want to take a project… my Shasta got some extra love and money because I knew I was going to keep it. I hear you on finding cheap campers, I know how much time and effort (and money) go into a restore so I refuse to overpay. Hopefully one will come along…I do wish I was able to get that Barth.

Nice job on the door. It's usually one of the last things I do.

Nice job on the door. It's usually one of the last things I do. Thanks! Me too, the door is usually last here too just because it's in the way going in and out of the camper so much while building LOL. This time, as usual, the weather tells me what to do even with the tent. With wind blowing, rain can blow up and through the space between the roof section and wall section. The door is on the side where all the wind hits and so the water blows in and comes into the opening where the door is supposed to be. So besides it being in my way I figured I'd go ahead and do the door so I could start getting more weather proof while winter is moving in.

Yep Weather dictates all my work schedules also. It would be nice to have a building I could work inside Soon perhaps if everything works out with the desert property.

Quick question Soup - on those cross members in the ceiling, did you add the extra piece that looks like its providing rigid-ness and some crown? I've not taken the roof off yet, but in my head I've been trying to figure if I could do something like that to fight the little bit of sag I have in my ceiling.
I haven't gotten that far along yet, but it's been going through my head for when I do.

I've not taken the roof off yet, but in my head I've been trying to figure if I could do something like that to fight the little bit of sag I have in my ceiling. I haven't gotten that far along yet, but it's been going through my head for when I do. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqML7WbOun8 Welcome to VTT batjac65!I'll try to answer your question with a couple of my own first. Are you working on the exact model as in your avatar? Have you ordered new roof skin or using old? Sorry bout that but....I'm OCD and NEED specifics! LOL On this LowFlyte in the pics above they were factory but not in the center ones where the roof vent usually is. The factory usually on the LowFlytes wouldn't run the center ones all the way to the sides due to electric being run. On this one I'll be taking scrawls from the other domed ones and making duplicates to have domed ones all the way down the center. I'll be taking just a bit more time than factory and cutting slits for the wires to run through the new cross sticks. I'll post some pics here when I get there! LOL Anyway, If it same as your avatar illustration and your putting on a new roof skin, I just did one couple months ago here; vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/479/compact-bring-boil-reduce-simmer?page=2If not, no matter model, are you using new roof skin? If yes then order enough side trim to allow for the extra dome. If not then you won't be able to dome very much. On the compact mentioned in the above link, I just put in all new cross sticks but wider like 3 or 4". (I didn't think to order a couple inches more on width of new skin and was only trimming 3/4" on each side flap) In the thread above, There were two sticks from factory that had steel strips running on the 1" edge from side to side. How I added dome to that one was run scrap 1'4" thick paneling a couple feet wide from front to back over the support sticks. That domed the new roof skin. HOWEVER>>>Remember... When you do this you also get dome in the center at each end where the front and back windows are. Too much dome on roof and you'll have wrinkles above your windows. Just sayin'! Start a thread of your own in the proper section and ask the membership their views too. There is more talented people out there than me. I'm sure more people would see the question on it's own thread too and get more answers and better ones than just being seen here. Most people don't read my dribble! LOL If your using old roof skin, and have the year model in your avatar, replace cross sticks with 1" x 3" and reinforce with 1" x 1/8" steel strap, then run the foot or two wide paneling down the middle on top under skin. You won't be able to run any bow or reinforcement on the cross sticks the ceiling panels slip into! Only on the ones in between. That's why I ran paneling on top of all cross sticks, under skin, just down the center for light bow. Did that make any sense or am I babbling again?
