My '67 Scotty Highlander has a new sink with fresh water tank and a hose hookup... but no drain! The last owner hooked up a 2" hose to the drain which is coiled up under the sink - problem is, it looks way too thick to reach the drain hole near the rear (which just looks like a hole anyway with no proper plumbing fixture to hook anything to it).
Instead of draining to the outside, I was thinking of getting a smallish, square water can (or even a plastic gas can, which would have a handle) to use to catch the gray water - looks like there would be room under the cabinet. Bad idea? Anyone have a different suggestion?

I am installing a small grey water tank under our kitchen sink. (Good for one night of camping without hookups, so maybe ten gallons.)
We will then run ABS pipe out the bottom of it and under the trailer to join up with the black water tank drain on that side. I do know that some people just put a 5 gallon pail under the sink and dump it when full.

We use a rolling 5 gallon gray water tank for Hamlet. Water from the kitchen and shower drain directly into it. Then we put the cap on and roll it to an appropriate dumping place. Being old backpackers, we can be very skimpy with water, and we have made the tank last three days for two people. We stow it in the potty/shower room when we're on the road and it sets up in a few seconds. Hamlet doesn't have a toilet, just a porta potty, so we don't have to worry about that part. We can put both in the back of the car and run them to the dump station if it's too far to walk.

OK sounds like it's at least feasible - thanks very much! Our trailer has no potty or shower, so the only water I need to worry about is from the sink (and we plan to do the bulk of washing up outside anyway) so even a smallish container should be fine.
QUESTION ON DISPOSAL: I've never had a camper before (just done tent camping) - are there specific areas for gray water disposal typically? Since I usually use all-biodegradable soaps for dish washing up I usually just dump my bucket water under a tree or something...

The politically correct answer is to pour it all down a toilet or down an RV drain. However, I have been known to throw dishwater in the bush. I'm not sure what the others do on here. I was thinking that if you have to dump it in a public toilet, it would be good to have a container that looks subtle.

Most parks don't allow dumping of any kind of liquid inside the park. On public or county or state lands gray water is ok to dump as long as it is at least 100 feet away from any bodies of water. So a roll away gray water tank is a good thing to have.
