My bunk latches seem to barely engage the wall surface. Originally they just skid into holes drilled in the wall, but I'd prefer a decorative slide bolt strike plate. Does such a thing exist? Google is failing me.

I usually add backers behind where the holes need to be before the skins go back on. You could make your own strike plates, or possible search in marine supplies. Another option would be wood blocks on top of the bunk runners. (seem to be missing in the pix?)

That's why I'm trying to sort this now, to make sure I have good wood behind the latches. My bunk is held up by metal rails that stop about 6 inches back from the latch, so I want them to engage well in both positions. Maybe some 1/4" ply is enough if I glue it.

If the skins are still off, glue the backers on the backside. Sometimes on the inside they interfere with the bunk operation...

If the skins are still off, glue the backers on the backside. Sometimes on the inside they interfere with the bunk operation... My problem is latch depth. The bunk is actually 1/2" from the wall, so the latches only engage 1/8". I need the strike plate area to be on the inside for more latch engagement. I'm actually a little worried about the 1" rails too as only 1/2" of the bunk contacts them. Might add some thicker blocks in the front.

Try using the lever type used in the Super Shastas. They turn 90 degrees to engage a metal slot in the wall. I'll get a photo of the part today if I can remember.

Ended up with just a few glued and screwed poplar plates like vikx posted. They give me the latch engagement I wanted. Turns out, the lower position didn't have backing for the latches, but I wanted to make sure it latched in that position too as my eldest daughter is a healthy eater. Another reason I want the interior 90% sorted before buttoning it up.
