I'm restoring a 72 Compact and need to find a rear window. Has anyone installed a non original window in the back? My window was gone when I purchased the old hag. I'm thinking about replacing it with a slide or crank out unit.
I still have the interior trim piece and these are my measurements: 36"x15" (rough opening). Of course I could go larger since I'm re-framing. Any thoughts/input appreciated.

I would take her apart before worrying about the window. You can always go bigger (if you are reusing the skin) but not smaller. If you go with new back skin, any window can will work. An older style square cornered window to match the era might be nice.

We removed the rear window in our 1970 Compact and installed the rear window from a 1971 Serro Scotty. We also replaced the rear window in our current 1970 Starflyte, with 2 matching windows. Had to go with this setup, because I didn't have another Serro Scotty window to use. As Vikx mentioned, take care of the framing and rot and get her safe and sound first. But you can be on the look out for a functional jalousie window or go with 2 like we did. The cross ventilation is great!

Yeah I've already began re-framing just trying to plan ahead. Does anyone know what depth window I should be shopping for?

We removed the rear window in our 1970 Compact and installed the rear window from a 1971 Serro Scotty. I'm digging this. Where did you find the window and how much should I expect to shell out for something similar?

The depth of the replacement window for the rear will be the same depth as the other windows in your Shasta. A Serro Scotty front / rear window can set you back anywhere between $75.00 - $225.00. It depends on who has one and how greedy they are. I have a 1960's style 4 pane jalousie window that came out of a 1960's Shasta. It is missing one glass pane and needs all of the Jalousie Glass Retainer Discs replaced. I don't have a screen for it either, but shouldn't be too hard to have one created. Do not have a crank handle for this window. VTS should have one that fits. APPROXIMATE OUTSIDE: 16 3/8" X 34" APPROXIMATE INSIDE: 14 3/4" X 32 3/8" Also have 2 1970 style jalousie windows. I have a replacement window for the one glass pane that is broken and have 2 screens for them, as well. Do not have the crank handles for either window. VTS has the handles for these windows. APPROXIMATE OUTSIDE of each window: 16 5/8" X 25 1/4" APPROXIMATE INSIDE of each window: 14 7/8" X 24 1/8"Each of these windows need to be cleaned. I can make the major repairs (replacing the missing glass pane and the Retainer Discs / replacing the entire window frame) or you can. If any of these sound like a possibility, email me and we can discuss it further. ross tearjerkers2004 at yahoo dot com

It sucks you need the rear window because right now there are 2 side windows from the same Compact, on ebay.

I would search Craigslist for camper Windows, I often see them come up in my area.
