So, I'm a very "outside the box" type of thinker and also details matter very much to me. I'm very close to the next step of construction on our '54 Silver Dome which will be to replace the entire floor, and I'm working through the best methods and materials to do so.
It's currently a two layer slab floor with soundboard/particle board as the first layer and plywood on top of that. The joists are full steel running across the entire width of the frame about every two feet and there are (rotted) 2x2 rails on the outside perimeter and bigger gusseted blocks at the corners to define the curves (it's a bread loaf style). Total thickness of the soundboard and ply is about 1 1/4". The soundboard is very soft and I can break it apart with bare hands so that is strike one in my mind for replacing it with the same. I'm thinking of doing a layer of Coroplast sheeting on the bottom to protect from the elements on the road, followed by a layer of 7/16 OSB with a radiant barrier (for that little bit of extra insulation), and then finally 23/32 tongue and groove OSB.
From what I have read, OSB should display very similar mechanical properties to normal ply and should be very similar in weight. I am worried about moisture and condensation though, will the Coroplast trap moisture in if the first layer is directly on top? It's a complete rebuild so I'm not concerned with keeping period materials in construction and I do like the idea of using the best of modern technology has to provide (as long as cost is reasonable). I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts, am I a madman, or is my reasoning sound?
Cheers, Jason

Why go through all the trouble of multiple layers of unproven products?
Lay down a single layer of 1-1/8" T&G plywood underlayment and be done with it. Seal the underside with an asphalt sealer.

Hmm, I may be overthinking it, I do have a tendency to over design things. The problem with single 1 1/8" T&G is it's crazy expensive everywhere I have looked around here. I may just go with 2 layers of 23/32" T&G, it's about half to 2/3 the cost for two sheets of that compared to 1 sheet of the larger thickness. Thanks for the sanity check!
