Wow, nice find. those are a pretty well build trailer and very much worth rebuilding. I'd have grabbed it in a minute. It will be an almost total rebuild though, but you'll have a very nice trailer if it gets done right.Good luck.

Thanks, I am going to strip it down to the frame and go from there. All the electrical pluming and gas lines will be new too. Should be a good time.

to VTT. FAN campers have a good following. I guess you could say FANs have a lot of fans. Yours has a very nice shape and a full bath is a bonus I would like to suggest that you have all the essential appliances and accoutrements in your camper. Yes, it does appear that if you have the patience, stamina and some discretionary funds a frame off rebuild will produce a camper you will enjoy for decades to come. Before you dive right in on the deconstruct, I think the absolutely BEST next step you could take would be to drop down two spaces to the Links thread, and secure a copy of V K Lee's book Vintage Trailer Repair *order of build*. The cost will be returned many times over in knowledge about the right progression to dismantle, repair and reassemble your FAN. We are here to help whenever you have a question, but that one volume will allow you to study vintage camper rebuilding at your own pace, and help you figure out what questions need to be asked and answered. It is not what you don't know that can hurt you, it is what you DO NOT KNOW that you don't know, that can cause real headaches and lots of "do overs". Again great to have you with us, and obviously the FAN was a splendid score. Anywhere you go with it from here is in a positive direction.

Great find. Welcome to our madness. If you are going to do a frame up resto, may I suggest that you do it all in Birch. Ash is very hard to find these days and the only thing that will be a close match is Oak paneling but you will have to sand down everything else because we can't match that finish any more. So Birch paneling with amber shellac would look great in your trailer.
I've found dead cats in many trailers. If the stink is getting to you the only good fix is to pour unused coffee grounds on the area and allow that to sit for a week. Then clean the area up and do the same thing with Arm and Hammer baking soda for a few days. One time I found 3 dead cats in a trailer. People should check their trailers for animals before closing the door and leaving it for months or years on end.
Also love your truck! Is that a Cherokee? I have a 78 K5 Blazer and do quite a bit of four wheeling and exploring in it.

I'm liking the birch walls and ash cabinets I ended up with. I replaced all the bad panels with birch and used the scraps to fix any cabinet damage. The contrast makes it a bit more "furniture-like" to me.

Awesome, thanks for all the info. I will def go check out that book. Thanks for the wood suggestions I will probably go that route with the birch. I am pretty sure we are going to paint the inside.
The smell is pretty much gone. I think the cat had been there so long the smell left by itself. It had been sitting with the door open for years in front of a lumber yard that had a lot of stray cats. but the good news is they chased all the mice away.
Mobiltec, Yup it is a 1996 Cherokee. I have had it for about 10 years and then a month after that picture 2 of the piston skirts decided to crumble apart. I had been looking to get a full size truck for awhile so it just expedited the search.

Munkmaster before you make any final decisions please think about NOT painting the inside. That's what all the lazy flippers do and it won't increase the value of the trailer at all. Matter of fact it will decrease the value. Please consider doing a natural wood panel using either shellac or some other type of finish. Anything but paint.

I am doing this for My Wife and I. We haven't made a solid decision yet because as you probably know all to well... Women really love to change their mind. If I was going to pic the lazy route I would not be doing a full frame up restoration.

If paint is what makes you happy, then paint it should be.
