I really like the look of the original silver and gold glittered vinyl on the ceiling of my 66 Super. But the glue gave way a long time ago and most of it had been stripped before I bought it. I have hunted for nearly 5 years on every vintage car/restoration/headliner website that I can find. But I can not locate anything close to the original. So, I will attempt something fun that is a nod to the original. We are using maple plywood sheets painted a creamy white. (I was told that maple would paint up with the smoothest finish.) Then applying a clear coat to seal it. While that is still wet, we will use a ceiling glitter blower (here's a link to the one I have) www.lewiscontractorsales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PAL&Product_Code=T17805&Category_Code=drywallaccto blow on a scattering of silver and gold glitter. I found polyester glitter (supposed to be tarnish and fade resistant) in .035" squares. I'm hoping that is close to the original size. Then we will top coat it with another coat or two of sealer. I found the glitter on a fishing lure making site. I'm still waiting for the order to arrive. I purchased the ceiling glitter for a vintage house, but it is 1/16" (.0625) and it was way too big. So, my question is, Which is the best sealer? I had originally purchased Minwax Polycrylic, this one- www.minwax.com/wood-products/clear-protective-finishes/interior/minwax-polycrylic-protective-finishbut then I read a thread here that said it didn't flex well and someone recommended Spar Urethane. So I purchased this- www.minwax.com/wood-products/clear-protective-finishes/interiorexterior/minwax-pro-series-spar-urethaneI bought the clear satin finish that is supposed to block uv rays. Am I on the right track? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Can you tell me where you bought the glitter? I am doing epoxy countertops and I will need some.

Sure. It was from www.lurecraft.comThey have quite a selection of sizes and colors. Also, pricing was cheaper than some other sites that cater more to glitter used for nail art.

OK here's what we did. After driving a very long way and picking up 5 sheets of 1/8 inch maple paneling from Peterman's Lumber, we painted one with the spray gun I bought at HF. We painted it "Fundamental White" and it came out terrible. We could see the grain through it and it also made the grain rise. Remember I'm not used to doing things like this. We are experimenting and we realized the wood paneling was a no go. It would have to be sanded, primed, sanded again and then sprayed and I had no time for all that. So we took the paneling back and then decided on 3/16 masonite hardboard. We got that into my shed and I began the tedious job of painting all five panels. It took all dang day because my compressor is not made to keep up with a paint gun. I learned that I will never do this again LOL... But I got it done. Five "fundamental white" panels... After that it was time to apply the glitter. We were using two colors. Silver and gold mixed together. That is what we were trying to match. The original ceiling was vinyl sticky back stuff, white with silver and gold glitter. First we rolled on clear urethane with a 1/4 nap roller. That part worked very well. Then we tried using the blower machine to blow the glitter out over the wet panel but it put out WAY too much glitter... So then Danielle (Modernme) decided to try just kinda getting it all over her hands and clapping them together to sprinkle on the fairy dust, I mean glitter.... LOL.. And it worked. Below you can see the outcome. I have some videos and will post that here later when I get time to edit them. So now we have five beautiful "fundamental white" panels with sliver and gold glitter ready to install on the ceiling of the 66 Super Shasta. Can't wait to get to installing them. Video coming soon.

This is great! I am planning to create starburst countertops using this. I found some glitter starbursts and now that I have seen the size on the ceiling , I am going to order this same size from the site you recommended. Thanks for sharing this! It looks true retro!

Quick question.. Did you use the hologram gold and silver or the regular. I think the H ones have some sort of other effect on them. I am assuming you used standard gold and silver, but just want to check before ordering.

I think she had a little trouble finding glitter that was not the hologram type stuff....

I did not use the hologram, it has an iridescent quality that I didn't want. Just plain silver and plain gold. Make sure it is polyester because the plastic will fade over time. The polyester looks more expensive when you compare it to the equal weight of plastic glitter, but the polyester is much, much thinner than the plastic, so you are actually getting a lot more volume of coverage by weight. (Does that make sense?) I was told that one pound of the ceiling glitter would cover about 500 sq. ft. of ceiling. My trailer is roughly 130 sq. ft. Just to be on the safe side, I ordered 1/2 lb. of each color. I mixed 1 teaspoon from each bag in a cup to then sprinkle on the panels. We had at least a teaspoon left in the cup! I really think 2 oz. of each color would have done the whole ceiling. So now I need to dream up more glitter projects!

Glitterati - sounds like sparkling lumenatti. "Lumenatti" meaning 'Bright ideas, emerging thought and interesting concepts to spark conversation, drive strategy and stimulate new approaches.' I like the thought of all of that taking place inside my trailer.
