My parents are recommending I get a marine toilet for my trailer, but after looking at them they have way too much plastic/modern bulky handle etc. In my bathroom this pump is still sitting there. It is connected to the water supply tank. The valve part of the spout is cracked, but if I can somehow rig it to repair that and join it to whatever it was supposed to join to I would like to repair it. I do not understand how it would have worked in flushing the toilet. Was it just gravity? There was no black tank, just a pipe that could be drained at the side of the trailer. Does anyone have a working toilet with a similar application? If not, how do I install a new toilet without having to install an expensive loud electric pump? Or is that a must?

That looks like a pump for an old marine toilet, to me. You pumped to fill the bowl, then flushed into a tank when you were done. Dunno what they would have done with no tank.

That is what mine has, about a 4" step up to the floor in the head. There is a tank that holds about 16 gallons. I don't like holding tanks for sewage so I have mine set up so the galley sink gray water goes into what was the black water tank. I have a Valtera waste dump valve for emptying at the dump station. We have a Thetford Curve porta pottie instead of a toilet, and it is really clean and non-smelly, easy to empty. By coincidence my fresh water tank is also 16 gallons so the gray water capacity is the same. We use bottled water for drinking. 16 gallons of fresh water usually lasts for 2-3 days when we boondock, using it for dish washing, brushing teeth and hand washing. The Curve usually needs emptying every 2-3 days as well (3 people)using it only when no bathrooms or bushes are available.

I'm kinda glad I tore up my black tank on a stump, gives me an excuse to buy a portable.

My dad just investigated further for men my trailer. It turns out there is a fibreglass tank in the step. He thinks it's solid and usable. This journey gets weirder all the time, I didn't even know they made fibreglass tanks back then

I guess I missed that I'm just happy that there is one less thing I have to rip apart and buy on my trailer. My journey on my first trailer was it looked better than it was. I was pretty cynical by the time I bought this one. So far it's been many positive surprises, like the vintage fridge working, and now not needing to add tanks. The next positive or negative will come as the skins are removed. It was stored under cover for the last 35 years.. so I do not know what to expect.
