I have a question...our camper was put together with screws having a sort of 'dogbone' or sideways eight shaped recess for the driver tip. None of the tools I have fit these screws and it is very labor intensive to dig each one out, with vice grips, a myriad of screwdrivers and much foul language. Larry, do you know what these profile screws werew called, and if so, is there anything currently available which will work on these *$#& screws?

How about a photo? Bill will probably know what they are and what kind of tool is needed.... The trailers that I have worked on have all been philips head screws as far as the 50s were concerned. In the early 60s they started using hex head screws.

I think you are talking about clutch head screws they were used in many campers I know the Banner brand used them. in the 60s. You should be able to purchase the proper size at your local hardware but take a screw with you as they came in different sizes. if they don't have a screw driver check for a insert bit, some sets of bit assortments have them also.

I have a set that came in a ratchet screw driver I have had for a few years and another that came in a combination set I purchased from Black and Decker. Good luck.

Learning all about tools one tool at a time. Now adding the Screw Pliers to my collection. My question -- is there a difference, that matters, between the Engineer PZ-58 Screw Pliers GT, Engineer PZ-57 Screw Pliers M2, Engineer PZ-55 Screw Pliers, and/or any of the other myriad of Screw Pliers? All listed are carried by Amazon. Nearest Lowes does not carry any under any name pushing a screw extractor set instead. Thanks in advance.

I can only speak about the screw pliers I showed you because those are the ones I have. I could not find them anywhere else but on the internet. And I lost the originals that you saw in the Deville and Shasta photos. They were even better but they are not made anymore for some reason.
I love the ones I have but you still need to bang on the screws from the side with a flat screw driver much of the time. And sometimes with a Philips. I am pulling screws out of the 57 Westerner right now and these are the absolute worst I have come across. Some of them have taken me up to ten minutes to get one screw out.
