I feel like I read somewhere about how to take this apart and clean with something with something and then test it out.

You may be able to get it to pump without taking anything apart first. If the seals in it are movable and are not shot, you can submerge the end in a pail of water and pump...it should spit water out the nozzle. I have no photos but can get some later, to show how it comes apart. These were made by Central Brass. I am not sure now that I am thinking about it, whether anyone has located a rebuild kit for them or not....

Ten I just put it in some water and pumped, it does work but it was very very hard to pump, I feel like I just pulled a muscle pulling so hard lol The green tanarsh? is not coming off very easily either, think I could soak it in CLR?

I would try lubricating the pump/ handle with WD40. It would remove some residue as well. I would worry CLR might degrade the rubber seal. I'm not sure why I think that, but I do.

CLR may work to clean it up, but I would suggest a little elbow grease, applied with some dry steel wool first. Using CLR should work if you rub it on externally, but I would not want it inside the faucet. You can use window cleaner or even just soak in a pail of water overnight first. The rubber o-rings will soften and let loose. Don't be pullin' any muscles. There are only two o-rings that act as the seals in the faucet. It should be possible to replace them at any hardware store. Other parts may be much tougher to find, and higly doubtful you would need, if no one has had it apart before.
One more thing...don't forget that it is a chromed brass fixture, and it is easy to mar or damage it when working on it. Remember to use persuasive force rather than the extra-large hammer.

I cleaned it up and soaked it in water with a little bit of vinegar. It still looks pretty bad, at least its not green anymore. Put it does pump much easier after the soak, I dont think I will even need to take it apart now.
I dont really like the look of the new pumps so I would like to keep mine even though it looks pretty bad. Do you think it would be ok if I painted it with the chrome spray paint? I know I would have to make sure not to get paint in any area the water will be running through.

What does the handle look like after soaking it? Pitted? Areas of chrome missing? Or not that bad?
If it's blotchy with chrome missing, I can't see how painting it would be a step down. My reservation is the handle itself which gets heavy/rough use.
How did the chrome paint work on the handles? Were you happy?

Is it copper or rust?
If it's rust, I'd use a primers formulated to lock the rust in so it doesn't leach through.
The way it looks, painting seems like a good idea.
The product Kirkadie recommended seems excellent but pricy. Were you happy enough with the reflectiveness of the paint? If not, you may have to move up to a more expensive coating.

I don't believe it is rust. These faucets are brass with a chrome finish, usually won't actually rust.
There's really only two choices for this. One is to send it out and have it re-chromed, and the other is to choose a different finish. Chroming is a great idea at heart, but tough on the budget. Different finish, paint, etc, can allow for a little customization if you wish. Painting, or changing its looks won't hurt it any...
Like anything else that you paint, the results will depend mostly on the preparation. Clean the finish thoroughly with denatured alcohol first to make sure there is no residue left behind, then prime it with a good automotive primer. I would take it apart to a point, so that the threads and knurls are not filled in with paint...probably unscrew the handle, and the plunger nut.
I'd also paint only the parts that will be showing most of the time. The plunger need not be, nor the tube that installs below the counter. The finish that chrome paint leaves has always depended on the quality of the paint used. Practice a little bit before applying it so that you know what to expect.

"send it out and have it re-chromed" I've wondered if anybody has a source that will do a small rechrome job? And how much it might cost. It would be a great resource.

Any reason not to buff that brass up to a beautiful shine? I didnt really think about that, but it sounds like a good option. Not sure how I would get the rest of the chrome off, I guess Im going to have to do some research about it. I vetod my spray paint idea because one of the drawer pull I sprayed already has a scratch on it. And re-chroming is out because of budget.
