So a few of you original members will remember me from the old vintage shasta trailer forum that was shut down a few years back. I joined this forum back then to retain my user name but was so disgusted in the demise of the old forum that I have not been active.
So. My background for those that don't remember. Bought a 1970 Shasta Compact in 2011. Wasn't suckered into the sale but probably paid too much. Naively thought it was ready to go. Turns out it just had some nice makeup on. Spent months gutting it to the frame (from inside). Peeled back the skins at rear corners and rebuilt it. Over New Years built a tall Shastaport to keep it out of the elements. That's been it's home since.
My wife and I have loved every minute with our trailer (except maybe the rebuild, in August, in Georgia, outside). We have towed it over 6500 miles since then all around the southeast. Attended a few rallies and buy luck (or association) became part of the founding members of a growing rally here in Georgia. 4th annual is this fall. Already sold out.
When we bought this trailer we were a family of 2 (and our two boston terriers). 1/2014 we welcomed our first child. He was camping with us by spring. Last November we welcomed our second child. A baby girl. Her first camping trip is slated for this month. I grew up camping. I want my kids to have the same experiences and memories.
So now we are a family of 4 (and two boston terriers & 3 chickens). The chickens stay home and guard the house when we camp. We made the sad decision to sell our compact this year (still currently on the market) as it's just too small for our growing family.
I'm currently working on repairing our "new" camper. A 1976 Apache Ramada hardside. Again. Turns out I naively walked into this one too (having gotten it home and torn through the systems) and now have many hours and dollars invested in it too. It's gonna be great though. Grew up camping in my parents 1970 Apache Mesa. We have 9 trips booked this year for the new camper (and technically the Shasta has a spot for it's new opener at the sold out rally later this year)
Planning to be more active here. Was extremely active on the old forum. Like I said. I was disgusted with how that ended and then life just got busy for me)

Welcome back Offspringin! Glad you are onto a new project.
We were all sad about the old board's demise. Once Proboards decided to annihilate all our photos, there wasn't much to be done. Many members stepped up and deleted their own photos to no avail.
We are very careful now to link photos rather than upload. It's worked well at VTT, just a bit of a learning curve.

offspringin, my gosh, you got a radical face job since the old Shasta days... too much sun and easy life since then, eh? We like pictures of dogs and chickens so it's time for you to figure out the new way of posting them. Personally, I want to see pictures of the guard chickens!

Welcome.
New blood is always a good thing...or old blood that's like new...at least to me.

So, a family of 4 doesn't fit in a 10 foot camper... Uh oh We "fit" but wet weekends are sucky. We usually leave our beds out which gives us like 4-5 sq feet of useable floor space. I always joke that you have to step out to change your mind

Welcome. New blood is always a good thing...or old blood that's like new...at least to me. Active blood is good. I felt like a noob on the old forum. Having been around a few years now, redone the Shasta and now working on the Apache I feel like I know a few things. Been around the block a couple times. By no means an expert but at least knowledgeable at this point. Actually just did my first tutorial for youtube on replacing the lift chains in the Apache. I lean on youtube for guidance and was surprised to find that nothing existed. Only written instructions. Give back. Pay it forward kind of thing.

I made this account fresh off the old forum. I remember being angry at having to start over. I had a photo of our camper on the old forum. Don't think we had the avatar creator over there. I'll post some photos up on imgur and link them over.

Thanks Vikx. I recognize a bunch of the old members (you included of course). I'll get some photos together and host them on imgur. Don't have many of the Apache yet. I guess it's welcome here. Mostly TT on here. I'm a member of a few Apache groups already. Like to get it repainted later this year. Back to it's original DuPont Ford Parrot Orange. Someone spray painted it "sand" beige. Not feeling it. Frame repaint is on the schedule too. This trailer has had some suprises (like a brake system you can't get parts for because it's an odd size caked in thick grease so I spent HOURS cleaning those). Or like having a dedicated right and left hand hub/drum and the left side having left handed threaded bolts. Or the fact that the lift chains were in worse shape than I planned and they are 360 for 4 and take quite a bit of work to replace. I found one of the outlets was fried from being overloaded which prompted me to rewire the trailer and install breakers. Jessica of course is working on a new awning for us and has done most of the curtains so far. One advantage to this pop up is that it fits in the garage. Can't fully open the beds. It's 21' open and garage is 19. The compact would have fit lengthwise but it's just too tall. Glad to be back. I'll try to be an active member again and contribute where I can. Need to get my Shasta sold but afraid posting it here. Judgement by peers can be scary.

Of course the Apache is welcome here! Everyone is and every trailer. There are no restrictions as to age or type. We even have a 90s Fiver... I recommend TCT classifieds to advertise your Shasta. www.tincantourists.com/classified/ VTT members have to have 50+ posts to access our For Sale section. I'm sure you will be there quickly, but new buyers aren't able to even see the section. We restricted it because if irate sellers not appreciating our honest opinions.. LOL. Looking forward to your Apache photos and build!

Looking forward to your Apache photos and build! Yea. Learned that tonight after sharing a Shasta with 65Callie. She told me she shared it here and sent me the link but it didn't work. I've got mine listed on TCT classifieds and with Littlevintagetrailers. People seem fooled by the lipstick trailers. Im amazed at the comments I see in the Facebook sales groups. Some sellers have to be flat out telling untruths. Saying they are "ready to go" when even from the photos you can tell it's not the case. Mine *might be listed high but the lipsticks are selling pretty close and mind has had actual real work done to it. If I still have it at 50 posts maybe I'll post it here. Don't know if I can handle the truth . Maybe I'll be an irate seller with 50+ posts

Great to have you back offspringin! Did you do a blog of your rebuilds by any chance? Thanks. Only on the old forum. My first post on here was a partial repost of my original thread on that forum. I looked at it tonight. My photos stop when I started to install the new foam insulation. Other than my for sale photo album I don't think anything else has them all together. I took ours back "fairly" original. We made a few changes. Made the bunk permanent down. Deleted the doors under the benches. Minor updates. New outlets and rear light. Installed same birch paneling

I've heard the Facebook souls do NOT like honesty. Glamp it and Vamp it = Big Money. Lipstick and paint sell. Makes me ill. Hard to get a solid value as well. The 70 compact is not rare per say but there are not a lot available ready to go in the southeast. I'm not a traveler. I won't drive hours to pick up a trailer. Some folks will. Hopefully I can find a buyer in Georgia to come and get her. I know what I have in it. Not including labor of course. I know what the lipsticks sell for. Mine should be AT LEAST at that price point. I listed it with an OBO on the price. Figured anyone decently interested would make an offer. Seems like maybe that isn't the case. Tax returns are coming, spring is coming. More buyers the better.
