Hi, does anyone know if Ash is on the front of the drawers in shasta's with ash. I know this seems like a dumb question and I would think the answer is yes, but the grain does not look exactly like the walls, but it is also hard to tell because they are dirty and need to be sanded down. If anyone knows for sure it would be very helpful, a mouse or rat ate the front corner of one of my cabinets and I may replace the front if its not ash. Thanks

My drawer fronts stained differently than my walls and my cabinet door. They seemed to have a dark stain on them beneath the opaque wash that I just couldn't get off. I thought they were the same wood as far as the grain but they all look different. Exposure to the "kitchen" elements may also come into play, but I could not sand deep enough to make them match the walls.

Simple answer: Wood from trees. I think many drawer fronts are made from what ever scrapes they could come up with, a lot used scrape from wall panels but not all. Some drawer fronts appear to be the back side of paneling and who knows what that might be. I usually remove first layer on fronts and glue on matching wood if I want a nice look to match the walls.

The drawer fronts in my Deluxe were plain ol' pine or whatever, as Bigbill said. Even the cabinet framing was different wood...
