While wandering the north island I came upon this campground. The ham lived on much longer down under. The door is on the other side here. Many people have a tent room. There are sheep everywhere. Many have a peak in the roof. Very smart. Big windows, too. Back to sea now. Next port we will head inland by car. I'm told there is a museum with a NZ vintage camper on display. i will leave you with one last photo of a rental camper here. No comment on the name and company logo.

So cool. Our friends spent a year.5 in NZ and they came back to CA being canned ham crazy 'bout the same time we were thinking about getting a ham. No wonder! The NZ trailers are VERY cool. The windows are great but I hadn't seen pictures of the roof peaks, those are a very good idea and remind me of the shape of a boat bottom. Are these all NZ built? Seems like they must be built on site and not from off island.

I believe those peaked roofs are fiberglass.

I believe those peaked roofs are fiberglass. I was a a pretty active member of an Australian vintage camper forum similar to the old VSTF forum. My name was crikeyitsbruce Obviously there were Aussies and New Zealanders participating. They have a wonderful assortment of very cool looking campers. I believe mobiltec is correct that most of the peaked roof campers have a fiberglass roof. They have some absolutely marvelous very small campers, that I am guessing can be towed by equally marvelous Utes. My favorite of the mass produced is the Starlette. Many have the door on the opposite side as ours of course. As for parts availability. Probably not so good if you are looking for a perfect fit replacement, same with appliances. They go for simpler two burner "hot plate" type cook tops and I believe many are wired for 220v. I would love to be able to squeeze about three campers similar to the Starlette into a container and import them. I think they also use a metric different type tongue ball clamp. Thanks for starting this thread and bringing a smile to my face. Crikey!! If you want a bigger smile on your face click on the poppytalk.blog thread just below the pic of the Starlette...25 of the cutest little campers OZ and NZ have to offer. Finally here is pone for SusieQ. You can follow threads all day long from the first one by clicking on a camper you like. The first one is for her, I'm NUTS about the next one as you scroll down!! www.theguardian.com/travel/gallery/2010/jul/17/retro-caravans-cool-camping

It finally happened. I was driving along and there in a farmers field was a camper. I pull over and see the farmer in the field sheering sheep. He says his parents bought it new in 68 and it spends most of its time under cover. No water damage. He is willing to sell it because it gets no use and he understands it isn't worth much. "Who would pay anything for a 50 year old camper!", he says. one small problem, it is on the South Island of New Zealand. Fate is cruel. An hour later. An hour after that. This man thought it was a 75. Still ham-ish . A NZ dog that crossed our path on the beach. Lunch.

This is the exact same kind of thing that happens to me when I travel. Vintage Campers seem to jump out of my trunk. They are everywhere. On most of my trip vids you will see a one or more vintage campers sitting out there just waiting for someone to come along and ask if they might be able to purchase them. Looks like you are having a blast. Keep up with the photos.

Today another Zephyer popped up on the way to the highest mountian in NZ. A lake near that camper. The view from our room where we plan to do a couple of days hiking. The are no vintage campers up there so there will be nothing new for a few days.
