Well, I guess I should introduce myself. I'm David Clay, a semi-retired Psych nurse. I've been married for 41 years to the most wonderful woman who has tolerated all of my many varied hobbies and passions. My current passion is building and restoring camping trailers. I've built several teardrop campers from scratch, and am currently in the middle of renovating a 1971 Airstream Sovereign. Also, I have built an airplane (a Sonex) in my garage from just a set of plans. It flies like a dream. During that build, I designed a sheet metal bending brake that has become known as "Dave's Cheap Sheet Metal Bending Brake". It was featured in Sport Aviation magazine and has been built by folks literally all around the planet. I joined this forum because I am about to buy my first vintage "canned ham" trailer as a restoration project. After browsing this group, I am very impressed with the knowledge and camaraderie found here. Even though I possess a few building skills, there is a lot for me to learn about vintage trailers. I'll probably be asking a lot of questions as I set out on the journey to restore a 1964 Mobile Scout 13' (hopefully). Here's a link to some photos of some of my previous projects. link to my photos

Welcome Txdave!
I think you'll really enjoy working on a vintage camper. You seem to have a good grasp on what you're undertaking. And you're up for the challenge.

txdave - Congrats on your new project and welcome to the insanity - your experience as a psych nurse should come in really handy as you try to figure out things like why there is always one more twisty nail holding the paneling on, what the heck held these things together, and why the aluminum skin that you just took off a month ago seems to have changed shape.

txdave Welcome Dave most what you get here is several thousand years worth (combined) of mistakes explained here and how to avoid them. If you are willing to search the files someone has most likely did it before and will explain how to do or not do yours. The most important things to remember is to enjoy yourself and don't scrimp on safety issues. Good luck and remember "IF MOMMA AIN'T HAPPY NOBODIES HAPPY" Enjoy

Welcome TxDave!
Very curious about your Dave's Metal Brake. Do you have a tutorial on it or? My metal man recently retired and there's not many left in our neck of the woods.
Excited to see the Airstream and your new canned ham.
