I am probably over thinking things but anyone have a good way to flatten the deformation caused from the nails going through the sheeting Thanks

two hammers one on the inside as a backing plate and one on the outside to tap it.. you can get a cheep set of auto body hammers from places like northern tools which v=can really help with this.

I agree, a backer and a tap. I have an old mushroomed punch that has just the right roundness...

If you plan on filling them, don't make them too flush -- you'll want a little dimple to hold the filler.
