Greetings, I'm looking for a spare tire wheel mount solution for my vintage wheels. None of the off-the-shelf mounts work, because the center hole is so large, 9.5" from the center bolt. My wheel is similar to that shown in the photo linked HERE. How have others solved this problem? Thanks for your comments. Laura

This may be a bit unorthodox, but if you ask around, like on your Facebook group thread for recommendations for a skilled welder/fabricator (local), you just might be able to take your spare and ask the fabricator how much s/he might charge you to make a spare holder to mount on your trailer. Most of the good fabricators I know would jump at the chance to "show off" and build a "custom holder" at a fair price. Any of my oil patch buddies could knock one out in an hour or less once they had the right 4 bolts to match the lug nuts. Doesn't matter how big the center hole is, the lug bolts will hold the tire to the bracket. In fact, might only need two opposing bolts to hold the tire firmly to the fabricated bracket, one lug nut being the lockable type of course...

A second option would be to buy a mount then take a piece of 1/4" x 2" or so long enough to span the bolt circle of your existing wheel then drill holes to match your wheel, next drill holes to match the mount you bought now bolt it all together.

Thanks Gentlemen, both good ideas. I have the name of a well recommended welder, and the custom option was something I was considering. However, option #2 would require less customization and I could probably do it myself (i.e., save some cash).... I'm going to give that one some thought.
Happy trails, Laura

I am going to put my spare tire up front laying flat on the tongue. Cut a 3/4" thick plywood circle to fit the center of the wheel like a big flat washer and use a 1/2" threaded rod to clamp it down. Other side of the tongue will be a 2x6 board for the threaded rod to pull against.
