And i now have a serious appreciation for what you folks are about here. It is an entire pdf on how to bondo & silicone & paint a trailer back to looking good, but not actually being good. I think this must be why you all are so against paint & goop. I have to admit it, i was sort of annoyed about the whole goop free thing, ~ especially if it looks like it will work for several years, but what i wasn't understanding is that there are some seriously unscrupulous folks using all manner of goop & paint to pawn off a perfectly rotted rat trap on the unsuspecting buyer, making it look like it was rebuilt, when in fact, it was just re-bondo'ed. I'm not against bondo in a certain situations (like my door knob striker plate thing that needed a little piece filled in), but this guy was promoting it to fix an ENTIRE ROOF SEAM AREA. It seems to me like the rot would still be there ~ am i wrong?t That would still compromise the safety of the trailer, wouldn't it? I mean, is bondo structurally sound? That seems like crazy talk.... This pdf also showed how to actually paint away the rot, rather than fix it! It showed using paints to basically color over the rot spots....
I may not want to or be able to do a full frame off restoration of my trailers, but i sure the heck would NEVER dream of pawning off rot & bondo as a safe vintage camping trailer. That is some scary stuff. And now i see thw push behind documentation, as well ~ you can totally prove that you put the CORRECT effort into whatever you CAN do.
So, thanks again, folks, i appreciate the honesty & integrity you all are promoting & enabling! ~Carol~

There are dozens, if not hundreds of stories on VTT of people buying "camp ready" trailers, only to end up with a full frame up restore. Mine had not moved in decades, was still in use daily as a home office and playroom and passed all the ice pick testing I could do. Turns out, pretty much everything about the trailer was unsafe, down to the frame and now I have trailer pieces shoved into every nook and cranny of my property as I try and figure out how to get it all back together and safe.

My first question these days is "When was the camper towed last and how far?" Although even being towed regularly doesn't mean it's safe. I saw one camper they just towed 700 miles and it was coming apart at every corner. You could see daylight coming in between the walls and the floor. It was a miracle they didn't kill somebody behind them on the highway.
Some people really don't know they are selling a camper that's unsafe. Too many others know it's a mess and don't care who they cheat.

Ah, Redhead, you must have discovered Velcro Strip's "restoration manual". LOL.
Thank you for understanding! Goop is almost always a cover up. Bondo works on little dings, but big ones and on the ROOF? Not so much...
We think like we do after tearing into our trailer pets and finding lots of PO messes. The things they think up are amazing.
I've written a book that is actually useful, but it's not for the faint of heart. These trailers MUST come apart to be fixed properly. Some of it can be done from the inside, but the skins still have to be lifted to do the skirts. All of us have learned the hard way. Me, took 4 YEARS to finish the first ham properly. I'm glad I did.

Ah Grasshopper... You now see the light. And in some cases, the daylight at the seams of the trailer. Yes. There are many flippers out there who are just out to make a buck and will sell a rolling piece of junk as a "restored" trailer. I just got an email from a viewer who was about ready to spend thousands of dollars on one and luckily he asked me about it first. He dodged the bullet on that one and is now viewing all my videos just to see what he may be in store for when purchasing a trailer to restore.
We thank you for your understanding of why we deplore goop here as we do. Just imagine a house that has had all the framing eaten out by termites. Goop aint gonna fix that and the house could come down crushing everyone inside at any time. Same thing here except that the trailer could explode on the freeway and kill people who are unfortunate enough to be behind the rolling death trap.
Yep. This is a "goop free zone"...
