Hey folks, so I am need in a new ice box so I ordered the one they sell on Vintage Trailer Supply and am quite disappointed. I took it out of the box (looks like it was thrown in with no care, mind you) and there were chunks of insulation missing out of the back of it. Not only that but the hinges were all scratched up and the rubber seal on the door was ripped in two corners!! So i'm kinda pissed but I was wondering is that just the quality of these iceboxes or did I just get some returned bad seed? Also it says you can run the hose out of the bottom of your camper to drain the melted ice but i'm not really sure how you would do that.. Since there is no way to to run the hose out of the thing besides out the door. Is there some secret way of doing it? If these are trash can you recommend a good ice box? Thanks. This is the product : www.vintagetrailersupply.com/Ice_Box_Small_p/vts-712.htmJer

My experience with VTS over the years has always been excellent, so I'm a bit surprised to hear your story. I would immediately get on the horn and contact them. Maybe include a picture too. I have an early model Formco IB75 (VTS $159.00) and it has 2 holes for the drain line, one on top and the other on the bottom, in back, so you can use the thing either right or left hand open. www.formcoinc.com/ib75.html
Is this the one you have? Either way VTS will make things good, I'm sure. Good luck
By the way, I have not had good experience with Formco themselves. I've been emailing them for several weeks about getting a new door gasket and had no response. Same goes for phone messages I've left.

I think mine is the ib35. It looks a little different from the 75, Mine doesn't have a single hole for a drain line.. I don't know what the hell they expect me to do. Drill a hole through the bottom or something? It comes with the hose and everything so I know for a fact this model is compatible with the drainage through the floor. VTS told me it was being shipped directly from Formco so it's not really VTS' fault that it's screwed up. I still sent them an email about it to see what I should do, these Formco people seem kinda shady, I went to their website and my computer got a warning that their website had viruses. I'm just stressed out about this whole thing.

Well, this answers my question about the drain hole.. Found it on their website. "• We recommend that a piece of Styrofoam or similiar material be fastened to the floor at the lower rear area of the Icebox for additional support. The Icebox can be installed with either a left or right hand opening by simply rotating it 180°. Place the drain line at the lower rear area of the Icebox, DRILL A HOLE through the Icebox and route drain hose through the floor to the underneath of the vehicle or into the bilge."
Kind of inconvenient that you have to drill your own hole, they should already have a hole ready to go. Oh well. Just waiting on some emails now.

I read the 4 reviews. I believe the first two are from actual purchasers, and the last 2 by Steve and Martin are bogus (maybe they work for VTS). Hey it is just my personal belief based on nothing but the large discrepancy between half the reviews for the same product. I'd contact VTS and request a refund and return it. If they say no, then let us know here on the forum. Unlike today's "Celebrities", all publicity is not good publicity. You could have shopped the used equipment/parts CLs near you and found a clean ice box for $50, better than what you are describing, imho. Maybe VTS will appreciate the feedback since there are so few reviews. After initially hitting post, I checked VTS' Home page and found this return policy statement. www.vintagetrailersupply.com/help_answer.asp?ID=11#42I'd try returning it as a first resort, although they don't make returning something that easy. s3.amazonaws.com/lowres.cartoonstock.com/business-commerce-jumping_through_hoops-hoops-practise-practices-boss-rmon1768_low.jpg

About 15 years ago I built an ice box out of plywood. I built it around a plastic tub I bought a walmart. I insulated it with 2" thick Styrofoam board I bought at Lowe's. I fill the tub with ice and it lasts 5 days. No drain, when ice is water pull out the tub and dump the water. I later bought a tiny $10 electric water pump, plug in the pump water is gone in 2 minutes. It worked great for 11 years until I sold that camper trailer.

So Formco told me that how the icebox is made and to suck it up, so I did some repairs on it. Filled the missing chunks of insulation, etc. They did send me new hinges and they were scratched too LOL. So I said screw it a little steel wool will do the trick.
VTS has incredible customer service however and went out of the way to stay in touch and help me out.
I have the icebox looking pretty good and its all mounted up and well insulated. Will post pictures when I have a chance
