So I've got this great pair of Shasta wings that, for some God-only-knows reason, were sprayed black by the previous owner. I'd like to remove the paint and shine these babies up, but I don't want to scratch them in the process. Any thoughts? Here's a link to a pic of the wings.

Don't worry about scratching them in whatever process you choose. The aluminum will polish out...Just takes a generous helpin' of "Elbow Grease", usually comes in 12-oz. containers marked "Genesee" or Utica Club". With the correct polish, the stainage of paint goes right away and looks like they are 20 years younger. (Wish I could find something to rub on me and give the same results!!)

OK, bought a bottle of Motsenbocker's, and a can of Klean-Strip. Will try both and report back with the results.
Also: Utica Club? I drink a lot of beer, but that one's from another era!

As promised, I tried both the Motsenbocker's and the Klean-Strip, one on each wing. I followed all directions on the bottle. I'm like that. Here's the first wing, foaming up with the Klean-Strip: Here's the wet Motsenbocker's wing: Motsenbocker's suggest using a paper towel to wipe the paint off. No dice: Went with something a little more aggressive. Still nothing: So the Motsenbacher's was completely useless on this. Let's go to the wing with the Kleen-Strip: The Kleen-Strip was amazing (and seemingly very toxic). After letting it sit untouched on the wing for 15 minutes, the paint literally fell off. A light brush took it all off in less than 30 seconds. After two applications with the Kleen-Strip, both wings were stripped of all paint: Next came a polish: Finally, here's the wing, back on the Shasta and ready to roll again. Thanks for the help, guys!

You can't go wrong with good, wholesome, pure chemicals.

Good job on those wings. And thanks for the empirical comparison.
