Hi,
So, I was thinking today, why can't you show up at a trailer rally with just your frame? Trailers show up at rallies in various states of restoration. I was thinking, so why couldn't you show up with the frame. I can prove that my frame is a '57 Westerner. I have the registration and the VIN is visible on the frame.
It came to mind because I am in the frame off position and working on the frame and floor for the next few months.
Just putting it out there for discussion.
Cheers
Rod

It would be a heck of a bragging point if you returned with it the following rally with a frame up restoration almost done or completed. I'll bet less than 2% of the people there have ever seen a bare frame, I'm sure some people would really be interested in the construction, especially those with westerners. If you do it, you will need to take pictures of the trailer before the tear down and maybe a schematic of the layout to make it more interesting for "visual" people. And you should probably do a rebuild blog and give people the address so they can watch it come together.

If you put a temporary floor on it you could pitch a tent on top... minimalism at its best.

With a little imagination you can see the shining new skin, lights hanging from the awning, trim polished to perfection. Wait...what's that green bungee by the gas tanks? Techndad, you ruined the whole experience right there. Tacky. No Best of Show for you!

I thought the same thing before I started scrolling down to see the posts. put some plywood in the bed of your truck and the tenting gear on top of it. Once you arrive and folks can see a great bare frame lay in the plywood and pitch your tent, and claim you have the only '57 Westerner tent camper at the rally.

Techndad, you ruined the whole experience right there. Tacky. No Best of Show for you! LOL! Nuts! I was hoping no one would notice the green bunjie cord. So, much for my attempts at glamping the trailer. I love everyone's comments, especially the ones about setting up a tent on the frame. When I was considering posting this question, I had considered carrying some planking in my van and then pulling it out, placing it on the frame and toss a sleeping bag on top without a tent. Puts new meaning to sleeping under the stars. I would like to do this. I wish I had reserved a spot earlier. The big Lodi Travel Fest and Buelton Trailer rally's in CA are in the next two months and fill up 8 months ahead. So much for pulling my frame into a rally, LOL. Then by the time I can get into any rally's the floor will be on and most likely the body will be sitting on the frame again, but not anchored. That ship will have sailed. On a serious note, do you think the organizers might be insulted or feel deceived? Rod

Rod,
Only if they are snooty and have no imagination and no sense of humor whatsoever.

Tell people it's a magic trailer and only "special" people can see it. Everyone will suddenly become "special." Kinda like the emperors new clothes... lol

Kinda like the emperors new clothes... lol Hi Lady Wendolyn, I was speaking to a buddy of mine last night and he mentioned the same thing, LOL. As it turns out, there are two rallies within the next 7 weeks within a days drive that still have openings. I wish they were closer. I just have to decide if it's worth going and spending $120 on gas alone or to save it for repairs. Rod =

I'm an hour and a half up the coast from you. All I need is one good tug on my loose floor and we can both show our invisible trailers in Buellton.

danrhodes, you could show up with a bee hive atop your rolling honey comb frame.

danrhodes, you could show up with a bee hive atop your rolling honey comb frame. Great idea! I found wasp nests in most of the external openings, so it may already be a bee hive.

I knew something was a miss way back when you were asking how to repair this floor. I knew it couldn't have been built that way from the factory and had no idea how large the "repair" was. That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. it's basically an interior door with the skin removed. I'd really like to know the rest of the story but I suppose that will never happen.
