There were a couple different setups on the older trailers. One had the license in the center with an independent light, and these would have two tail-lights which would both be the same, a single bulb with the double-filament (1157) and solid-red lens. These would be the "98" version... www.vintagetrailersupply.com/Trail_Lite_No_98_Complete_Assembly_1_Bulb_p/vts-676.htmThe other setup would have the license plate mounted beneath the left side tail-light, and that light would have a clear lens in the bottom portion which acted as a license light, and sported two separate bulbs. The right tail would be the single bulb version, obviously without the license cutout. This set would be one of the "98" version, above, and one of the "99" version... www.vintagetrailersupply.com/Trail_Lite_No_99_Complete_Assembly_2_Bulb_p/vts-676b.htmThe only thing I would question about these lights is they do not show the lens having the clear cutaway in the bottom portion. I would check this point before ordering.

would the two bulb version be brighter since both bulbs would be on for the running lights (or tail lights) while the other half of the 1157 bulb would be for turn signals and brakes. my loflyte has the seperate license plate light. what do you think?

yes, that was my thought.it would not hurt to have brighter tail lights for the people that dont pay attention at night

I originally had the two bulb set and I replaced them with a new two bulb set. They are a little tricky to wire. IMO, the second bulb really does not make that much difference. I figured out the wiring for the two bulb, but if I had to replace them again, I'd probably go with the single.
Edit: When I replace my bulbs with LEDs, I may feel differently.

"Don't pay attention at night"... hell most don't pay attention at ALL!
