There have been several thefts in our rural neighborhood recently. The latest being my husband's outboard motor, stolen right off of the boat AND it was locked! so my thoughts instantly turned toward my trailer. What is the best way to prevent some knucklehead to hitch up my trailer and drive off? I have a bar lock through the hitch. Should I get a wheel lock? A better hitch lock? Security cams? Land mines? Please share any suggestions

Land mines. Definitely.
Disable the trailer for towing. Take the wheels off or at least one. Or use a BIG anchor chain around the axle to Grandfather tree...
Hitch a vehicle to the trailer and disable the vehicle. Remove coil wires (do cars still have coil wires??) A hidden off/on battery to ignition switch would work.
Consider a GPS tracer. Will not prevent theft but might find the old girl somewhere....
Others please chime in!

I discovered that by never finishing my rebuild nobody wants to mess with it. I thought that was pretty smart till Christine pointed out who the smart ones really are. Gulp...

Another vote for Land mines.
Other deterrents... A gate on the driveway.... A fenced in area of your yard and Two pit bulls....
The discussion has been had before about the virtues of hitch locks. Most of them are next to useless as far as stopping the hard-core thief who is determined. At least that would slow someone down, in particular when camping. For storage situations I like the idea of removing one or better still both wheels, so it cannot be moved.

A problem I see is that I can go to our local weekend flea market and have the choice of small to very large bolt cutters, with the big ones costing about $20. Sure they are made in China, but those big ones can still cut through most chain, except maybe that case hardened stuff. Invest $20 with a chance you can steal a lot of trailers, boats, motorcycles yada, yada. I lean towards at least one tire being removed. Too bad there is not a removable tongue option on the table that wouldn't drive most DMV's crazy. If I had a really nice camper that was a beloved family member, I definitely would have a video system tied into my computer trained on it, and a couple of motion sensor activated flood lights set up in the access area to where it is parked. But short term I would consider $40 spent on this device (or even less for one of the ones shown at the bottom of the page) to be a good start. www.amazon.com/Wireless-Motion-Sensor-Perfect-businesses/dp/B002RLHMGA

We have a simple plan in that we are going to store it inside our dealership as eye candy... Lots of alarms on the building and police are pretty quick. My bigger concern is during travel and after looking at all the options I have decided to use a gps. $ 100 per year to monitor which is peanuts compared to what I have poured into this thing
