I'm very excited about how well things are coming together on our trailer. We have an outing next week so I got a chance to get the new curtains up and make up our bed.
My BF is a very light sleeper and I bought a set of blinds to tryout to put behind the curtains. However, he just doesn't like the idea. What have you used to try to block out light? His "grand plan" is to take leftover pieces of reflectix and cut them to fit into the window openings. OMGosh...dang guys... How ugly would that be? LOL.
My thought is to get some coordinating heavy fabric and cut the pieces to fit over the windows and attach them using Velcro.
Here is a pic of our set up so far.

You can buy room darkening curtain lining fabric. Ideally, it would be sewn to the back of the curtains when they are made. My 65 has blinds from the PO. Not very attractive, but functional.
Here's another idea. I did this in my teardrop before I got permanent shades. Lowe's sells paper shades, less than $5. The room darkening ones work great. You just cut them to fit and stick them above your windows. They probably would not even be visible when not in use. They are fan folded .

SusieQ...what do you think about the street and curbside curtains bunching up. They bother me but if I hem them up anymore, the bottom of the screen frame shows. Any thoughts? I don't want to raise the rod since the previously drilled holes will then be exposed. I thought about just adding some stitch witchery so it wasn't "permanent" but again...the frame will show. Maybe I'm being OCD. And thanks for the compliments. It means a lot coming from you

I haven't put my curtains in yet but I think they will touch the top of my cushions since my cushions are taller than the original. I may have the same issue. Stitch witchery can be permanent. You could add another curtain rod at the bottom, right over the frame or a little above it and let them bubble over in gathers if necessary.

There are a couple ways to deal with it... First you could do like we have done with Hamlet. The curtains aren't an issue at night with the bed down, but during the day when we have the table up, the side curtains "bunch up" a little like yours do. We went with 6" thick cushions instead of 5", and the overlap is about 1/2 inch. I just let them bunch - and despite wanting everything to look "company perfect" all the time, we have gotten used to it.
The other, neater, and potentially more OCD-satisfying would be to put lower rods on all three windows and run the curtains through both upper and lower. This would serve both to keep the curtains right at the bottom of the frame and to make any room-darkening features more effective (especially if you lined them with darkening fabric).
Good luck - your trailer is gorgeous!

Martha, Your poor cursed BF! I too am a light sleeper. Since I am mostly bald, I just put on a skull cap (except for when its 85 degrees, like now) pull it down over my eyes and stick some 30 DB earplugs in. ( My sweet delicate wife sounds like an elephant when she snores). Sometimes I need an extra pillow on my head as well. I doubt there is any curtain treatment that will work in Walmart parking lots!

I've done Walmart lot with the paper shades, no problem with light. But the diesel that pled up next to me made it very hard to sleep. I hear everything! Light doesn't bother me.

At the upholstery wholesaler they sell a tuberoses back lining called hotel blackout. Not only does it block the light completely when closed it has an R value rating because it insulates and drops the temperature by 60-80 when closed on a hot day. It sells for about $5.00 yard. Comes in cream and white.

The PO of our Concord made drapes from blue denum. They worked great at darkening the camper, but didn't look so great. My thought is to apply a dark tint to the window glass panes, (same as used in auto window tinting), and Ellie wants to install some kind of "valise" type curtains. (that's her thing). I think the tint will work well enough to darken at night and with the windows open, we'll still have plenty of light.
