It looks to me like Oak is the best match for Ash. White Oak. It comes in 1/8 inch thick panels, bends just like birch and now I just found out that it stains the same as Ash. So I'm going to put a panel in the back of my 59 Shasta tomorrow and will do a short video on the subject. Today I put a coat of Amber Shellac on a piece of oak paneling to see if it stains the same color as Ash and it does. So I'm not worried about replacing a panel in my Shasta with it. I still want to try to match the original finish but if I can't I will sand down the entire inside of the trailer and go with clear or amber shellac. Not sure which yet but now at least I know that Oak resembles Ash in color after stained and the grain patterns are very close as well. This is with one single coat of Amber Shellac. When I get a panel in and shellacked and next to other original ash I will post another photo. That's going to be a few days at least.

I like the grain a lot. It does look more like ash than birch.
I'll be interested to see it next to the Ash.
If I make it out west again I'll bring back 100 sheets of 1/8" oak and make a killing.
$75 a sheet. And that's the family price.

I've always thought that white oak would be close. Good to have you confirm it. The veneer on that panel appears to be what is called "plain sliced". The ash paneling I have seen appears to be what is called "rotary cut". If you can find rotary cut white oak plywood I think it may match even better.

Ramona my favorite is Birch. But sometimes we end up with a trailer that is ash. The Oak seems to match better than the birch.

Just installed white oak paneling in the rear of my 59 Shasta. It looks like it's going to be a great match...

Called one of my 2 local suppliers who carry birch...no oak to go with the no ash I already confirmed. I'll call the other in a bit. Would save me a lot of work though to have such a nice match. mobiltec, have you tried you local Home Depot?
