We are thinking that we can put a twin air mattress on top of our existing dinette seats and make for a pretty comfortable sleep and then pack away the air mattress during the day. Has anyone done that and are there reasons this wouldn't work that I haven't thought of yet. Very new to this game.
Thanks.

Climbing over someone in the middle of the night on an air mattress is easier said than done. Other than that, they are comfortable.
With only two people, we decided to just leave the back a bed. We bought a four inch memory foam pad at Walmart. It's very comfortable.

Mtuscon, do you have to pull out or fold down your dinette seats to make a bed? If so won't you have to do that anyway to put an air mattress on top? In which case I think it would work just fine but why not use your cushions in your dinette benches for sleeping?

My husband and I are not on the petite side and I figured sleeping on just 4 inches of foam might not be very comfortable. Maybe I should take a nap in the trailer one day and see what it feels like. Thanks.

We were able to get hold of 2 covered foam mattresses from a damaged pop-up camper someone was parting out (got love Craigslist. They're about 4 inches high, but doubled up they are super comfortable and fit perfectly.

We do something really similar. We sleep on the back gaucho but the foam on it is quite hard, so we add two thick sleeping pads from REI when we fold it down to a bed, which makes it very comfortable. The pads are narrow enough to put them in the upper bunk area the next morning without deflating them. It makes for a quick bed set-up/take-down. www.rei.com/product/870757/rei-camp-bed-35-self-inflating-sleeping-pad

I am building memory foam into the cushions on our dinette/bed. They will be 6 inches. 3 inch firm foam, and 3 inch memory foam. I hope it works out or it will be an expensive mistake. One lesson I already learned is not to use the "gel" memory foam in a trailer for a topper. I left my topper in the trailer for the winter and this summer it was hard instead of soft.

My boyfriend is somewhat heavy and we splurged on a good air mattress but they just never achieve the firmness of something more solid. We tried foams and mats and even a featherbed mattress, but he was pretty miserable. However, we carry along a couple of Coleman folding lounge chairs for relaxing outdoors, and one day I ran across a killer sale for 4" thick chaise lounge cushions that you put on outdoor furniture. They are a whole new level of comfort when hanging out on the lounge chairs. One night he was tossing and turning and finally went outdoors and slept on the lounge chair, and he slept really well. Since then, we bring in the chaise lounge cushions at night, lay them side by side and build our bedding on top. It is almost the size of a queen bed, and heaven to sleep on. These are deluxe cushions, I will bet they weigh 10 pounds each, but I found them at an end-of-season sale and got them for 60% off...
