Hi! Your rebuild looks great! My husband and I are in the middle of our rebuild of a 1974 HiLander and are curious on wall height and roof cross members. We used the siding as a template for our side walls but now we aren't sure if we should cut a little off the top so that the when we install the roof cross members and nail board the siding will cover them or if we should leave the side walls the way they are and let the roof cross members stick up above the siding. Can you tell me what you did?
Thanks for your time! Kaleigh

If you used your siding as a template, make sure that you don't cut the sidewalls the same size as the siding. The sidewalls should be approximately 1" smaller than the siding. This allows the 1/8" paneling to sit on top of the sidewalls, and then 3/4" cross members to sit on top of the paneling. Then your siding will line up with the tops of the cross members.

I remember when you first tore this down. In a day I think? I'm impressed. Not only with the quality but the speedy completion of your project. Congrats.

Perfect combo of contemporary and original. Nicest looking rebuild I've ever seen.

Amazing work! Love the one day breakdown video on youtube as well (and the music). We have just done the same thing and it took us 3 days to get it down to the frame... so you win the olympics in that event!
Just wondering what type of water sealant you used to seal the edge between the wall and the roof? Thanks for any information and happy trails in that beautiful trailer.

I realize this is an old thread, but I'm currently considering a Hilander and of course did a search on the forums, and found this tbread. I think you just made up my mind for me. That is a beautiful restoration!

My favorite Scotty by far. Almost painted my cabinets based on this camper alone.
