I'm about 80-90% done with the interior restoration of my 1965 16' Ideal. The PO essentially gutted the interior before I got it. Most of the parts are there. I was checking for the positioning of the table yesterday. The original configuration is two long benches against the front sides with the table mounted against the front wall. The table has a piano hinge and folds down against the front wall. What I can't figure out is how the table makes down into the bed. Or if it does at all. If it doesn't then I may be missing a piece that connects the benches. How does this work? I've figured out quite a bit about vintage trailer restoration but this has me stumped!

Are you sure the piano hinge is original? Perhaps it was added by a P.O.
Typically there is a cleat attached along the front of each bench for the table to sit on top of when made into a sleeping platform. Measure the table to see if it is intended to fit into the space provided for it. I have also seen 1x4's spanning between the dinette benches that a couple of pieces of plywood then sit on top of. The plywood stores under the dinette seat cushions.

Would the manufacturer installed a piano hinge to the side of the table over the laminate edging? Because that's what it is.

I don't think your piano hinge is origional. You can buy a set up, that drops down the table into position, or you can add rails across or along the edge of each bed. Check out vintage trailer supply, under tables and you will see the drop down hardware.
If the hinge is origional, you would need some boards to lay down to make the bed, but that's rather redundant when you have a table you can use.

My 54 Westerner had a piano hinge and the table folded UP to the ceiling above where there was a hook to keep it there. The leg also had a snatch pin to hold it against the table and out of the way. Then there were 3 slats / boards that you stored under the dinette seat that spanned between the seats on the cleat. Many times the table doesn't even fit between the seats and you have to store it on the floor below with the leg folded and use the slats there also.

I think I would be laying there wondering if the hook was going hold ... Lol

I like how the bottom of the table is done with finished wood trim.
