Hello everyone, One of the screen door tabs on our Shasta is rusted out and broken and the other two are not far behind. I have googled it and am about to spend 140+ on ebay for a new vintage one. I can find lots of new quality piano hinges for under 30bucks but I can't find ones with the screen door tabs, anybody have a source I am missing? it would be nice to get a new cheap one versus old expensive one complete with rust spots. Thanks!

Take some close up photos or your entire door/hinge to a local metal shop. You never know, they might have some ideas.
Odd how people want to sell the screen door and don't know it's the HINGE pieces that are in demand...

My hinge was not in super bad shape, but the bottom was rusted out and gone. If you get into these hinges they are not really that bad to work with. I scraped an old one and salvaged some sections. I was able to address my problems with good results. You can piece them at any location.. you just gotta thread it out, match it up and shoot the rivets back.. I helped a freind of mine fix one at center mast but I dont have any pics. His was much worse. Of course I dont know how trashed yours is. These snap shots were my fix on mine.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I had to laugh because my dear husband is a sheet metal guy, that is what he does for a living but he has been so busy he has not had time to work on this for me so I decided to see if I could just buy one somewhere and mark something off of my list. Ross that is the one that I have been watching on ebay and may purchase if it is still available and nice job pathfinder but I think that is beyond my skill set. Thanks again everyone.

I believe mobiltec and Johnpalmer have both mentioned this guy. I believe I am quoting a reply Johnpalmer put in a parts wanted ad.
"Folks you need to write this down for future reference. This is the real deal, a guy that parts out old trailers, and the trailers come out of the HOT and DRY high desert area, so corrosion and rust is minimal. He's very knowledgeable about vintage parts and vintage trailers.
His name is Chris, aka Trailer Trasher. trailertrasher1@Gmail.com
He's trustworthy, has fair prices, and ships parts. He lives in El Mirage, CA that is at least a 100 miles from any real So. Cal. civilization, so shipping parts, or a road trip is necessary.
Please don't bug him with questions, unless your serious about buying. I would hate to screw up this reliable resource for the builders that need a constant supply of old trailer parts."
That is the end of Johnpalmer's quote. The only other thing I can suggest is to go to a professional sheet metal person your husband knows, but may not necessarily like, and get a quote to repair the one you have, and then casually mention you are going to take the hinge to that person...sometimes that is how the cobbler's wife got her kids new shoes when there was a foot of snow on the ground.

Hello, Vintagebruce thank you for the contact information and I like your idea, I thought that money would talk more then anything but when I showed him the ebay listing and how much that was he looked at it and said buy it! So I don't think there is much that would light afire under him at this point. He is tired of working so much hopefully it slows down soon, we are never happy. There is either too much work or not enough it seems. Portajohn, I will sent you a message.
