I bought this trailer and will be restoring it next month. I am building it to haul a couple of vintage dirt bikes. Problem is, I have no idea what it is. I thought it was a 60's uhaul. I cant find it anywhere on the net and i am turning to you guys to help me figure out what it is. If anybody knows what this is or know where i can find out, please let me know. Its about 5 x 9 on the outside and its fiberglass. Thank you. Jay.

Welcome vintagedirtbiker,
We are more about camping trailers than cargo trailers, however, there may be someone here who can help you out. I see on another thread you asked for help posting pics, the link Theresa gave you explains it best.

U-Haul had some U-Haul branded campers and also bought a number of other brands of fiberglass "eggs to rent for camping. Lots of old stock is being sold see the following thread. www.fiberglass-rv-4sale.com/for-sale/1985-uhaul-project-trailer-2995-forest-grove-orBut if it is only 5 feet wide it may be a fiberglass rental trailer for hauling. Once we see the photos I'm sure we will be able to help. Update: I knew U-Haul had empty small trailers for hauling in fiberglass. Here is a thread that has the first entry about a trailer like I think you bought. Unfortunately his photos don't open, but if yours had double opening doors in the back, it might be like his. You might figure out how to contact him through the homepage. www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=9265&p=115011

I really like the old cargo trailers! There's a whole group of people building them in for "Stealth Campers"...

Hey Jay,
The vintage fiberglass "eggs" are so cool. There were several different being produced. The Burro is one of my favorites.
Post some pictures and that will help.

I'm not sure if "stealth campers" are the same as bugout campers, but I think there may be more conversions than we can imagine going on in the region I live. One of our Members on VSTF and I corresponded for a while regarding one of the U-Haul "moving" trailers, also 5X9, in fiberglass that he was "converting", it was built pretty sturdy as you can imagine for the rental market, and yes, it was going to be kind of a stealth conversion too.

Hey Jay, The vintage fiberglass "eggs" are so cool. There were several different being produced. The Burro is one of my favorites. Post some pictures and that will help. Ross check out this thread...it lists a bunch of eggs sold and if you click on any or all of the listings one by one, a detailed article comes up with photos of each. When it says a group of X campers sold if you click on that you get a camper specific list and if you click on the individual campers, again article w/photos. Click on the Fiber Streams sold item...when it opens I was amazed at how many Fiber Streams of different years are/were out there for sale...I have only seen the one offered twice in the last couple of years on the FS sites I frequent. www.fiberglass-rv-4sale.com/fiberglass-rvs-sold

WOW, never seen or heard of the Fiber Stream, but what a cool looking egg and much larger, too. It looks as though it is a one piece body. Most that I have seen are a two piece body, either a top & bottom or right & left sides.

Two piece bodies are much easier to produce as you mentioned. In a previous life I did a stint as the Safety Director of a major Sport Boat manufacturer in Orlando Fla, while trying to help dig them out of an EPA/OSHA compliance problem. They made up to 42 foot fiberglass sport boats and the top and bottom halves of the hull came together as smooth as silk. I'm guessing maybe the Fiber Stream is a left and right half melded together and the seam is invisible, which is possible. With my help, they dodged about a $750K fine...I think I made about $30K for the service.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I met a Canadian couple yesterday who were in their 1975 13 foot Trillium. They said they'd heard that the company had been sold to an outfit in Texas. Anyone else heard that?
