Based on what I've read, sometimes the terms S-lock and Pittsburgh seam interchangeably. My metal fabricator offers both, and at least in his shop, they're different. Here's a link with the picture: www.interstatervmetalandsupply.com/cat_alu_dia2.htmThe seam that runs along the middle of the trailer, joining the top and bottom panels needs the Pittsburgh, right? Just making sure before I order. Is the general consensus that I should NOT get the autoroll on the bottom edge? Or are there people that prefer them?

I make my own bend at the bottom. Much easier to get the fit just so...
Pittsburgs are easy to use and almost all of my "seamed" trailers have them. I would go with Pittsburgs on the siding. Skin from the top if you order Pittsburgs.

How do you make your bend in the bottom? I saw somewhere that you use j-rail as bottom trim. Do you have any pics?

Sorry, don't use J rail as a bottom edge. Most of the time, I bend the metal gently under, then use my favorite wood block to complete the turn. Here's the end result: Newer trailers do have trim at the bottom. I re-use the original if it's possible. Here's our 67 Land Commander:

That curved bottom edge looks great. Our 1957 Rainbow had a trim piece on the bottom that we can't reuse. Maybe we'll try curving the bottom. If it looks good we'll forgo the trim.
Why go with Pittsburgh on the sides instead of S-locks? I know Pittsburgh is more 1950s correct but I like the more seamless look of the S-lock.

Mountainsounds,
You'd be surprise what you can do to resurrect the trim. I've had some that was flat and we cleaned and recurved it. A person can't tell...
That said, Pittsburgs and S-locks both "show" as seams. They hook together differently but there's still a bump at each seam. The trailer I'm working on has the S-locks and they are not as user friendly as Pittsburgs. The S is harder to connect, IMO.
Also, most trailers with trim at the bottom have metal that is cut at the bottom edge. In other words, too short to bend. New J rail is available if you need it.
