I am about to put down underlayment over the old floor of our Shasta Compact. The maker of Sureply underlayment says to staple it down or use underlayment nails. No mention of screws. And clear instruction not to glue it down.
It seems to me that 3/4 inch staples (it's not suppose to penetrate the subfloor) would come up from the bouncing and vibration of the road. I wonder if they're talking about a just a stable floor in a building and not a camper.
Does anyone have experience fasten underlayment down before tiling?

I just stapled mine and was going to add tacks but I decided not to. It feels really snug but I didn't want mine to be too difficult to remove in case I decide to change my flooring. You know, a woman's prerogative.

As long as the substrate is in good condition, I would follow the manufacturers recommendation. Since staples have two legs, they have very good holding strength, its like two fasteners in one. When I have done demolition work in homes, staples were always the toughest fastener to deal with.
