I first saw this trailer 5 years ago on one of my fishing and camping trips to the Eastern Sierra in the Owens Valley, CA. One of my Ham Radio friends up there was renting a house to a guy who had this trailer and was planning on "fixing it up". I told my friend that if he ever decided to get rid of it to let me have first dibs. Well here it is 5 years later and the trailer has been abandoned on my friend's piece of property for the last 4 years and he called me and said it was mine if I wanted it. Free...
First thing to do was head to the DMV. No title. Found the VIN and headed off to the DMV. The thing was indeed in the system and had been legally junked in 2001. So now it has to be "un-junked". So I acquired a one trip permit to haul it home. Got it out of the hole it was in as seen in the first pics and got it to my campsite 12 miles away where I could do the things I had to do in order to make it safe to tow.
Now it's safely here at my place. The drive was 300 miles and it towed very well. I love this trailer and will do a complete restoral on her. This trailer is a keeper and won't be for sale.

So that's what you were up to. My kind of vacation. As much as you give Larry, it's good to see you get every now and then. This will be fun to watch. A hearty congratulations from my camp.

The trailer was one reason. Fishing, camping and relaxing were among the other reasons. Although I didn't get a lot of "relaxing" in. LOL...

It's a beauty Larry. It's amazing to see the difference in condition of the trailers on the West coast vs East coat. Congratulations on your gifted trailer.

Wait til you show non-VTT friends the one that did NOT get away on your fishing trip. Better to restore, keep and enjoy than mount it!

So even on vacation, you were working! Congratulations on your gift. It looks very cool. I don't know the right name, but I like the window style.

Great shape and size. Really beautiful. What does the inside look like?
The desert makes all the difference.

Great shape and size. Really beautiful. What does the inside look like? The desert makes all the difference. I'll photograph the inside when I get it cleaned out. It's save able. Most of it is there. All the paneling will have to be replaced. Some of the main cabinet will need to be rebuilt. The Dixie 4 burner free standing stove and oven is in great shape. Going to replace all of the metal skin as well. Might be a frame up rebuild. I have to get a look at the framing.

So, is buying a trailer without a title what you said you'd never do? But then, you didn't exactly buy it.

So, is buying a trailer without a title what you said you'd never do? But then, you didn't exactly buy it. What I actually say is to do your homework before buying a trailer without a title. This one was legally junked so in order to gain title on it I had to get the current holder of the trailer to write out a statement of facts showing the DMV how he obtained it and now I have to get a brake and lamp inspection also. Then I can apply for a title from the DMV. And yes I didn't purchase this trailer, it was given to me so if I can not gain title to it I have lost nothing.
If you just go out and buy a trailer without a title and don't do any homework on it, you could be stuck with a junked trailer or a hot trailer. You just don't know until you go to the DMV with the VIN. This is the second trailer I have gotten for free that has been junked. The first one was not worth the effort or costs involved in gaining a title.

Ah, thanks for setting me straight. I thought I recalled you saying in a recent thread that you had a surprise, and were going to do something you said you'd never do. I thought this might be it.

I am looking forward to your restoration... Will it be done any different as a keeper, than a seller?
