Hello! I recently purchased a 1973 Field and Stream. She was an actively used camper when we bought her. Part of the reason we were so excited to find the camper (other than that we had been looking for the right one for years!) was that the Field and Stream was built in Boise. We live in Idaho.
I'd love to pick this knowledgable group's brain about two things.
One, I'm having a really hard time finding out anything about Field and Stream trailers. I know they were produced by Vacation Industries but know little else. Any general info would be great to know!
Two, we want to minimum viable product (any other systems folks out there?) this camper into use. That being said, we don't want to be driving down the street and have the thing fall apart.
We've pulled flooring from the two back corners and there is no water damage or rot. We haven't checked the front corners yet (cabinets are in the way). I see a lot of posts of people pulling off all the metal skin on the back of a trailer. Is this recommended/necessary?
The whole shell needs some silicone (and tar, gah) scraping and to be resealed. We have that on our to do list.
I appreciate any thoughts!

Here is a link to a field and stream page on Facebook. A few pics and owners on there. Lots of other help available on this site on how to repair etc.

Welcome FSSara! Field and Streams often had very modern styling. Do you have any photos to show us?
And yes, if there is evidence of rot (loose J rail, metal gaps, discolored interior panels), you will be ahead to lift the front and rear skins. Very few trailers have survived this long without "some" damage. Best to check now.
None of us envy you picking silicone and tar, but most of us have been there. Enjoy our board.

Thank you both! The top of the door does seem to be hanging onto something rather saggy, so I guess it's time to peel back the sides. Unfortunately our garage isn't quite big enough, and it's been raining for weeks, so it'll have to wait until we get a stretch of sun. Here's a picture of her. Because she is an "newish" model, she doesn't have the same great modern lines as some of the older Field and Streams I've seen on these boards. I'm going to start up a separate thread on the board to share some progress as we have it!

She has BEAUTIFUL lines! And actually looks about 10 years earlier than 73, but we're not very familiar with the brand. Congrats on the addition to your family.
