A big discussion came up on a girls camper site I am part of. The discussion centred around the fact that more than one of the ladies who has used armstrong tiles has had them pop off after the winter. is this common? We sell some deck vinyl adhesives here in Canada that are rated to -40, and I am wondering if I should be using that instead of armstrongs glue, as my trailer will be sitting in the very cold Canadian winter every year. Thoughts? Here is a link to the glue we use on outdoor vinyl decking... it's rated for severe cold. Its at the bottom of the page.. Severe cold glue

The only advise I can give is to follow Armstrong's recommendations. If they "popped" off, imo, chances are something was wrong with the user application. And I am guilty of not doing things right myself, this is experience talking!
From everything I have read so far about PCT tiles is that the surface needs to be as smooth as possible. I am putting an additional sanded luan on top of my floor, countersinking the screws, sealing them and all the seams before I lay the tile.

The big mistake most people make is not reading the instructions on the glue container. I have videos showing complete installation of Armstrong VCT and one of the most important things is to read the instructions. You MUST let the glue dry to where it turns from yellow to clear before laying the tiles. And use a 1/16 inch notched trowel. As far as -40 degree weather is concerned, I would call the technical dept at Armstrong and ask them about that. The number is on the can. Might even want to ask a pro which I will do in just a few minutes and when he answers back I will post what I found out here. I don't think humans should live in -40 degree weather myself LOL.
Lady I went to that link and I'm not sure I would use that stuff for Armstrong VCT. I would check with the manufacturers of both products first.
I have sent an email to my Pro and he should get back to me in a few days or less. Don't do anything till I hear from him.

OK here's my PRO's answer...
"It should if done right but vinyl will expand and contract a lot with heat changes just like siding does, it shouldn't come loose though if done right."
Another thing to think about is how solid the floor is. If the floor is soft in places it may tend to loosen the tiles even more. Something to consider when choosing floor covering. In the case of a soft floor I would go with sheet vinyl instead of tiles.
Hope this helps.

I will be putting mine down on new plywood, and I am very good with following directions.. learned a few lessons from not doing that! The lady who says they popped may have installed incorrectly.. so I think I will do it the armstrong way, and if they pop.. I will deal with it. There is also a chance that I will be storing my trailer in the showroom of our car dealership, which will be fun for the customers and protect it from the -40 temps.
