I want to replum my sink to a holding tank under the seat. What do I do about the drain, and vent going out thru the exterior of the trailer. Any pics?

I drain mine straight down and eliminate the vent and trap. Most of my 50s trailers were plumbed that way from the factory.
If you want a holding tank, install a trap at the sink and plumb to the tank. A tee at the trap allows a vent higher than the sink drain. Sorry I don't have pix. There might be a vent hole already in place?

my trailer has a vent but it is not covered on the outside of the trailer. what do I cover it with. there is also a drain going to the side of the trailer. if I remove that drain what do I use to cover over the outside of the trailer. Thank you Roger

Someone on here, Bill or Vikx had mentioned using a gallon or two grocery store water bottle for their "tank". I wonder if it makes sense to use one also on the drain side, since many campgrounds don't like dumping on the ground? I personally don't see much point in using a large under seat tank (which i just removed yesterday), when you could fill a bottle or buy one at nearly any grocery store.

I'm thinking Dan has a good idea. 5 gallons would be better, clearly marked GREY WATER... There are vent covers available to hide the holes: Before, holes visible: After: I actually screened one and used it as fresh air for the dorm fridge...

Wow. Great idea on the vent. Thanks for the pics. Where did you find those vent covers? Roger

Using a 5 gallon jug may work for gray water. If you have a 15-20 gal. fresh water tank, the gray tank would need emptying often. I don't have a way to move a water jug under the sink and out all the time. Need a more permanent way to empty it, and I would prefer a "closed" gray tank" system to avoid leaks under the sink. Thanks for ideas and pics. Roger

Our trip to the Tybee Rally last week brought up this problem for our trip too. The campground did not want grey water to be drained off on the campgrounds' soil. I scratched around for a solution and this is what worked for me. I'm sorry that the picture is not at the best angle.. I can take some more at home for ya but I had this one on my computer here at work and was able to Zoom in abit.
The only parts I had to purchase was the "threaded coupling" pipe that screwed onto the plumbing threads on the Campers sink drain.(it comes through the skin and I cap it off when traveling). Lowes plumbing thread patterns are bigger, I had to get this piece at the RV store.. $7.95 Ouch! The 90 degree elbow did come from lowes at about 80 cents. I just jamb it on and it fits tight. I shot it with some Almond rustoleuim and put it aside to dry. The old Jerry can came from the Old Toyota Landcruiser I had.. (good days.. I miss that girl).. It was rusty inside now and I had not used it for fuel in 25 years but it was still hanging around.. I purged it with some boiling soapy water a few time and shot it with some paint as well. The radiator hose came from the same corner of the garage.. LOL perfect fit. I just ran a note of the copy machine here at work and stuck it on and covered it with some clear tape. DO NOT DRINK / NOT POTABLE WATER GREY WATER HOLDING TANK ONLY
It worked fine and we barely filled it up one time. There was a dish washing sink at the Bathhouse and it was not a big cooking weekend in GA. I hope this gives you an idea brother.. Good luck!

And another thing.. If your camper was set up like most normal campers with the drains, plumbing elbows and what not.. I'd not be in such a hurry to do away with all of the original rigg'in. This stuff is not that hard to fix back right or work around correctly..But I don't see what your working with either.

WOW Pathfinder, you are one creative dude. I used to camp in a tent trailer back in the 60's when it was ok to drain the gray water into a bucket and empty it into the bushes, and my 68 Lo-Liner has the same setup as your trailer. Now, here in California campgrounds, even draining into a bucket is a no-no, they don't tolerate overflowing buckets. LOL. I am thinking of a gray tank under the seat, with a hose bib and 5/8" hose to drain to the campground sewer. I am not able to carry those Jerry cans full of water anymore. Thanks for the pics. Roger

Ah.... California.. La La Land.. You guys are going to be washing your dishes with sand in a few weeks. (smile) I get your idea, keep us posted and take some pics of your endeavor. Iv’e been to Yosemite park, didn't really have alot of do-nots posted at Wenonah campground, it was about 5 years ago.. But we were tent camping and we are always pretty low impact campers. :)California has some wonderful areas. I was in a place called Pickle Meadows when I wore a younger man clothes.. A life time ago now that I think of it. It was a beautiful place as well.

HaHa. Yea, we do have water probs. I bet Gov. Jerry Brown and his cronies are not "if its yellow, let it mellow" like he wants us to do. LOL You have a nice Shasta, really like the green color. Thanks for the input, I will take some pics soon, of my "project", I'm moving to a new house and will have a garage for the Lo-liner. Will not have to work around the weather, as in 100 degree summers. I am in Clovis, near Fresno about 1.5 hours to Yosemite and other great camping in the Sierra mtns. Thanks again, Roger

Round louvered cover is a battery vent cover, available at most RV shops. 1/2 Clam shell cover is a vintage part, sometimes available on fleabay...

Hi Roger,
I just sent you a PM about an alternative gray water solution that I used on our 2013 Retro 150.

The blue stand up tank with wheels on it is available at any RV store in many sizes including 20 gallons. Some even have ball hitch attachments so you can tow it to the dump station at an RV park for easy dumping. Or towing away from a creek due to laws regarding dumping within 100 feet of a creek or stream... You can barely see the bottom of the vent just above the drain tube. The exterior through-wall drain hook up is also available at any RV store.

Once you commit to a drain like this, it's pretty much your only option?
