As usual, I'm probably over thinking this but here goes. The paneling on my 65 Aloha was originally fastened with 3/4" aluminum screw nails. I'd rather use 1" fasteners for the new 1/4" paneling. 1/2" of nail shank holding the paneling doesn't seem like enough, although the originals held quite well.
Seems like most screw nails are now zinc plated. Not sure if aluminum is preferable or not. For one, it won't rust, which is a consideration in our damp climate. I haven't yet found a source for aluminum screw nails. I will be installing my paneling before finishing, so shellac will be applied over the nails. If I go with zinc plated fasteners, which I will likely have to, the shellac coating will provide some rust protection. Any thoughts/experience on my rust concerns?
If I go with nails, I'd prefer a small domed head like the originals. Looking at various suppliers online, I've only found one of them that describes the head size. Theirs is large. Not what I want. Is this typical of the 1" screw nails? Does anyone have a known source for 1" nails with a small head?
I know VK likes using painted #6 truss head screws. No doubt, this would provide superior holding, plus be easier to remove, but I'd prefer a smaller head.
After writing this up, I see I should have just asked if anyone has a source for 1" screw nails with a small domed head and if over time, has anyone experienced any rust issues with the zinc plated nails.

I like the truss head screws. The twisty nails are a pain even with a palm nailer and a guide hole. And the Palm nailer rocks the camper in a disturbing way...if you know what I mean. With that said, I used twisty nails to be authentic where easily seen and truss screws out of the way. I couldn't find an alternative for the twisty nails that has a look-alike head. Maybe you'll have better luck. If you use the palm nailer, watch the pressure or you will bang holes in your new panels.

When installing paneling, the walls will be separated from the body, laying flat and well supported. I don't have a palm nailer and don't plan to get one, not yet anyway, am very comfortable hand nailing.

I ordered 300, 1" x 14ga. zinc plated nails from McMaster-Carr. www.mcmaster.com/#nails/=wxrsbqThey list the shank and head diameter which matches existing. This isn't set in stone yet so any other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Google searches end up with all types of pan head philips, etc.

From the linked page, select nails, then screw nails for wood. You can't link directly to individual items on the McMaster-Carr site. Here is link to the screws VK uses: monsterfastener.com/item/smsts-108

I made that video with the updated news about the pressure and show how to install the twisty nails without beating the crap out of the paneling. Now I get no accidental whacks on the wood using the palm nailer. youtu.be/vy-J7UA3hgE

The only way to figure out what does and doesn't work for you is to give it a go.
