Hello All,
I'm glad to have found this forum. My name is Shane, and I was previously living in Atlanta, Ga. I used VSTF quite a bit after my wife somehow convinced me to restore this little compact we found on Craigslist. I was actually just going there to say "thanks" for all of the help afforded a non-Shasta (but still vintage) trailer owner that stumbled upon that forum. We couldn't have come close to pulling this off without the fine folks over there (and hopefully now here). It was my first real project of any magnitude, and we only bought it at end of January and had it road ready by the beginning of May.
As for the camper, the previous owner had it freshly painted helping to mask all of the water damage we unfortunately found once returning it home and peeling some skin. Long story short, I was now somehow fully committed to a complete overhaul, stripping it all the way down to the floor and then rebuilding it back up while trying to salvage the painted skin - a typical story here I know (I feel your pain).
If the rebuild wasn't enough, we didn't take a typical "maiden voyage" I would read about that others have done. We gave ourselves and our rebuild the benefit of the doubt, through caution to the wind, and set out on this crazy road trip that we're currently in the middle of now. As I sit here in San Fran, we are 60+ days into our Li'l Beaver's "maiden voyage." We took this beast from Atlanta, over to the coast in NC, up to Maine, across the Midwest, into the Pacific Northwest (coast to coast), and now back south down the Oregon Coast into California. We're pausing here at a relative's house before we try to circle back to Yosemite and onto the Grand Canyon. It has truly been an epic journey, and I couldn't have made it even to the road without these forums.
So.... Thanks! I look forward to paying it back by contributing and offering insight when and where possible when I can.
