I just put in a new subfloor - 3/8 exterior ply topped with luan. I plan on laying Vct tile over the luan. What's the best type of product to use to fill/ smooth the joints and imperfections? I've been debating wood filler vs bondo vs drywall compound. I'm leaning towards water based wood filler - because it dries quickly and it's easy to work. Any advice?

Any brand of cheap auto body filler will work.
Bondo is a trade name.
Mix and apply very small batches, if you have never worked with body filler.
It's only going to fill gaps and knot holes. The floor still must be ridged, or it will not hold.

I use floor leveling compound. It's a dry product you mix with water. Dries quite hard and is sandable. My luan doesn't have a lot of flaws so very little is actually needed.
