Hey Sean, first of all thank you for your service to our great nation! Next, welcome to "the" vintage trailer forum. Beautiful old Shasta brother. Now, where to start. I'd reccommend you read everything you can here (lots of good info), and, watch mobiltec's videos on trailer resto till your eyes hurt and you get brain freeze from information overload. Seriously, mobiltec's stuff is the best out there and it's essentially free. All he meagerly asks for is a donation if you find some use out of what he has spend really years putting together. Oh, check out the Vintage Restoration, Stories, and Pics forum here.. it's got some very good start to finish "how I did it" threads. Best of luck in your new project.
Here's mobiltec's link:

Edit: Here's another link that provides photo journeys of some complete restos. VikX is another one of our local trailer fix er upper experts that takes the time to share what he knows..

Hey Sean!
Welcome, let's see some interior pics, too. RJ is right, take the time to read and review all of the incredible info here (and Mobile's videos). Doing so will keep you from repeating lots of mistakes the rest of us have already made.

I got lucky with the exterior. It's all in decent shape, but has dents and dings everywhere.

I'm going to try to fix the dents/dings with filler. Does anyone know how hard it is to fill on aluminum?

Welcome Sean,
Looks like a great resto project. I concur with all the above. Be patient, very patient and don't do anything until you know what, why and how you will execute it. At first, expect to spend much more time learning than actually working on the trailer. Do you have a covered area you can dedicate to work on it? If so, that will make it much easier. Learn what we mean by "lipstick on a pig" and don't go that route. Do not make the mistake of starting out by gutting the interior, work from the outside in. Commit to doing it right and making it safe and you will be a happy camper when it is completed. We are here to help.

Most of us don't worry too much about the dings and dents. If it is so bad that you just can't stand it you might be better off replacing all the exterior aluminum. Body work takes a lot of time and effort, may not be worth it.

Dochalpin, welcome! What part of NY?
There is some great advice here already. Mobiltecs videos are priceless. Be a sponge and learn all you can about all the systems. If you know camper systems already you are at an advantage. Make a plan. And double your expected budget. If you are going to paint spend the time to remove and reseal the skins and replace all rotted framing

Welcome Sean,
I agree: don't gut it. Take your time and do it right. The dents and dings are sometimes called beauty marks by those in the know...

KTO, I'm in Dutchess county. Are you nearby? I am looking to remove the skins and replace to wood that is rotted. I just don't know how I will successfully do so, as I don't have an enclosed space to keep everything dry. I'll be doing it outside..

Vikx. There's a LOT of dents/dings everywhere. I actually like doing body work, as it helps with my PTSD. I think it'd help me to fill everything in.
