as some of you may know I'm making my awning and poles. How much shorter should my pole height be compared to the height of the awning rail? enough to clear the trailer door when open? they are wood poles, so it will be non adjustable. the awning will be 8' out from the trailer.
thanks Brent

The various camp sites are seldom level, and I notice that even "my step height" varies by 3 to 4 inches when the trailer is leveled. Yes the canopy needs to be high enough to clear the door, and screen doors when opened. The canopy poles need to fold up to be short enough to stow inside the storage compartment.

some good points since I tow the trailer with the truck (8' box) the poles will go in the back. I want to keep it as retro as possible. I know retractable poles are the best, I'm not going that route.
I guess then I should have them the same height as the awning rails?

I'd put them a little lower than the awning rail. Also, when it rains, one side of the awning is supposed to be lowered so rain doesn't collect and pool.

thanks Vikx. I'll start out a little lower than the rails and see how it goes then go from there.
Cheers Brent

Brent you can adjust the height of your poles (make shorter) by just moving the bottoms in toward each other, but you can't make them longer than straight up.
