It all started with a 64 Shasta Compact, which I restored, used for a few years and then gave to my son and his bride for a wedding gift. Then a 59 Shasta Airflyte, which my husband and I restored last summer and use for camping. Now, my daughter recently purchased a 1960 Holiday House and we will attempt to bring home this weekend. It's sheer craziness but our family is in this vintage trailer camping! The Holiday House is an incredible find especially here in Minnesota in the dead of winter. Only made in 1960-1961 and around 200 made. Looking for more information if anyone has any on the Holiday House trailer.

There's been a wonderfully restored Holiday House exhibited at the Palm Springs Modernism show in the past. If you need particular detail photos, I might be able to help if it's here this year.

I just missed nabbing it. Saw it on Craigslist at 11 pm, sent him an email, told him I'd call him in the morning and wanted it. Phoned him in the a.m. and missed it by a half hour. I should have got him out of bed, lol. Dang that was a buy! Glad it's going to a good home, and staying in Minnesota. I was born in Grand Rapids myself. Enjoy!

That is a great find! How long is it? I expected it it be a long trailer but it doesn't look very long. Too cute.

That's what it looks like to me, too, Bill. I've never seen one that size. It is really cool. I think that was a fabulous find.

This is a 1960 Holiday House Model 17 Self-Contained. The box is around 15 feet long. It is overwhelming at this point. At the factory they must have laid the floor covering down with a layer of paper over it. Then they assembled the interior of the trailer. So in all of the drawers and cupboards where there is flooring it still has paper covering all the vinyl (just like brand new). Today we will try to get the carpet out and see how the rest of the floor looks. It has all the original light fixtures (110 and 12volt), gas refrigerator, tankless water heater, 3 burner stove and oven, Ward wall furnace and an aluminum underbody. There is plenty of rot. We are looking at keeping it as original as possible. We haven't seen one like that yet. Most have been painted inside or all the wood replaced with birch or maple. The original is oak paneling. I am looking forward to some feedback. At this point it is not road-worthy because of the skins not being attached very well.

The "52%-purist" in me is just tingling! Great great find...and so glad it will be saved, not made into a coffee trailer or fishing hut...<shudder>

I don't recall anyone else mentioning paper over their flooring but my '62 Shasta had paper over the floor in the kitchen cabinets area. It was like a wax coated brown paper. I pulled it up and the flooring was perfect under it. Apparently, it was water resistant as it was under the icebox and the drawers under the stove where there was no tile and it didn't show. Unfortunately, it was not under the sink part or had been removed. Maybe the whole floor was covered with it while it was being constructed and then it was removed, but left under the cabinets where it did not show. Interesting that you mentioned the paper!

I think many companies used the brown paper over the new flooring during the manufacturing as a template to build the trailers. This allowed for the proper placement of the fixtures. Most of the trailers had several different floor plan options for each length and using the template made sure it was laid out "quickly and correctly without measuring".

Thanks, Vikx! My daughter is trying to figure out a restoration plan. She would like to keep it as original as possible. Trying to find a reputable restoration place with reasonable pricing can be difficult.
