I have not and will not watch Flippin' RVs. I'd just rather spend my $6 on something else.

To each their own, the great thing about a free market is if you don't like it don't pay for it, Nobody is forcing you.

Well, if it comes in handy in the Privi, what more can I ask?
Why didn't one of you say that in the first place???
I understand supporting a hobby and I do think the worker deserves their pay, but money is still money.
At work I'm employee 32469 for a reason. If I don't come across with a product of quality, I'm replaceable buy 32470. Nothing personal, just business. It's the American way
If I pay for a year in advance with most magazines I get half off. If I don't like the first issue, I can often cancel. Neither is true here so I was really wondering if this is a full magazine or a glorified flyer?
Let's talk specifics.
How many pages is the average issue?
How many individual campers are featured either in photos or articles? 2...10...20... and issue?
Is 3/4 of the magazine filled with ads?
Thanks again everyone.

Does the $6 include shipping? The shipping on their back issues is as much as the price of the magazine.

I'm sure we are a very diverse group, with many interests in other hobbies. I'm a Hot Rod, Car Guy, and it's very sad to see what has happened to the specialty car magazine industry in the last few years. I grew up in the 50's going down to the Ryan Evans Drug store, and reading the 25 cent small pocket sized magazines. It sparked an interest in me, that has lasted a lifetime. I learned lots of skills by reading what others have done, and how they did it. You would normally see twenty five different specialty car magazine on the newsstand, but now you see only a hand full. Rod and Custom was a great magazine with lots of tech articles, it's GONE. Street Rodder, is still around, but has been reduced in content and tech. Consequently, I no longer subscribe to ANY magazine except Vintage Trailer. The internet is good, but what's going to teach the next generation of car guys, and trilerite's the woodworking, welding, metal working, electrical, plumbing, painting,............etc. skills. We no longer have industrial arts classes in schools.
It just seems to me that we need all the experienced teacher's we can muster up to promote the skills needed to continue in the future. I have only been in the trailer hobby for less than ten years, and have personally seen it grow by leaps and bounds. Having a magazine that connects the hobby just makes sense to me. As has already been stated, you don't have to buy it, but it's still the only thing like it out there, and IMO, it's worth every penny.
The reason I stopped building teardrops was because only cheapskates were involved, building on small wheel Harbor Freight trailers. I hope the canned ham group does not turn in the same direction?

I don't watch Flipping RVs or Flyte Camp. Seen em both once. My hands were tied behind my back and I was sat down in front of a 72 inch flat screen TV and forced to watch. Television has a way of prostituting everything it comes in contact with. Magazines are OK I guess. I don't get anything out of them is all I'm saying. They do come in handy in the privi though. Larry, It's obvious that your not a regular reader of Vintage Trailer Magazine, it's been a GLOSSY for the past six months or so........it's best use in the privy.......is to just read it! Oh! That I did not know. I have only seen the very first issue which was given to me by Cindy Ross. It was a news paper type thing. So it's a real magazine now eh? Well it would make for reading material in the privy then LOL...

I think it depends on what you expect to get from the magazine.
Remember when you were in High School and waited for the school paper or the yearbook to come out? Then you would thumb through it to look for pictures of your friends and yourself?
Well this magazine seems to appeal to folks that enjoy that sort of nostalgia… Not high on trailer expertise or restoration content but still allot of fun seeing what other folks are up to. I don't expect whole lot from the magazine but it is Fun and Campy and Folks Enjoy It!

Wow.. I was away for a few days. I missed all the drama! I do know one thing as a film maker and published writer. The cost of publishing are high, so I am guessing they are charging accordingly. But I almost bought the magazine.. and then didn't yet. I would want all of the issues, right from the bugging.. so I wasn't missing anything.. I know.. weird.. but we are all a little weird!

Just so you know I'm not against JUST this magazine in a hobby. I can't stand the Skydiving rag either. It's called Parachutist. Full of ads and very little good content. Same with Hang Gliding magazine which has switched sides and gone where the money is as they all usually do. Now they cater mostly to Para Gliding which has some how taken over most of our launch and landing sites and pretty much pushed us Hang Gliders out of the way. Don't we read enough about our hobby on the forums and in our blogs? And after all, who and where do the magazines get their articles and photos from? Really. How much more can you learn from a magazine that you haven't seen here?

Schweetcruiser sent me an extra issue he had. I have to admit, it is better than I expected. I also have to admit, there is nothing you can't find online. The advantage is that it's in one place.
And it is fun getting something in the mail.

I have to say that I love magazines. I subscribed to this one until they went glossy and raised their rates. The main thing I didn't like was that it seemed pretty west coast oriented, and I'm from the midwest. Usually I look for articles where I can learn something new (that's why VTT is the best ever). I do have to say they published an article on a fellow who builds Serro Scotty styled trailers from scratch, and that totally inspired me. If they ran more in depth articles like that, I would have stayed with them.

John, I appreciate your support for a magazine you like, and agree that it won't be able to move forward in quality without subscriptions and advertisers. I usually welcome advertisements because often they open my eyes to innovative products. However, if it isn't producing the quality of articles I want on a regular basis, then I'm not willing to wait for them. A sudden 50% increase in the rate only gave me slicker paper, and that pushed me over the edge. Hate to say it, but the print industry is a dying one and the only way to survive is to produce high quality articles, even if they have to pay for real journalism.

There is one other good use for the magazines. You can put them on display in your magazine rack and on the table in the trailer or a table outside of the trailer. They will add to the vintage atmosphere as long as the cover shot is a good one.
