I almost bought a set of mid century drapes for $200.00 but I kept thinking.. "They are 60 years old, how long will they last?" So, after researching the almost non existent selection of cool vintage look fabrics I decided to participate in a fabric design website where you can design your own fabrics and wall papers and even sell them if you want. I have a lot of experience with working with vector files and illustrations from my film making background, so it is not very hard for me. Here are my first designs. I will be using the red starburst for my drapes, and the cream with coral and turquoise starbursts on a wall paper on my bathroom ceiling. I may use the boomerang print for some pillows, but I have a few more ideas I hope to try first. Here is the link to the site where I have my little store, and where you can design your own fabric. If any "Full Member" of this group, would like to have me design you a custom vintage pattern for fabric for your trailer, I will do it for free for you. I enjoy working with the program. You will just need to send me your colors, and style wishes and we can fool around with it. It doesn't cost me anything to upload a design so there is no risk in trying things out. The fabrics sell from $17.00-$30.00 a yard depending on the thickness and weave of fabric you choose. I get 10% of the sale from people who buy my designs so I am hoping to sell some by the time I order my fabric and maybe get mine for free. The main thing is.. I can finally get the exact mid century fabric that I want.. and so can you! Here is a photo of some thumbnails of my designs. Click on the link to see the actual library. link to fabric design site

Very good idea!
A friend bought some really cool "vintage" Bark Cloth drapes at a swap meet. They carefully first took them apart, then a trip to the cleaners to get "the years" of smoke smell out, then they went to the upholster to be turned into the proper sized drapes for their vintage trailer. Long story short.......they are turning to shreds! It's much cheaper to start with new quality material.
While we all desire "the look of vintage", sometimes it's best to build your project with new materials. I applaud your efforts, and with your back ground in both upholstery materials, and understanding what makes the correct "look" in vintage, sounds like a winner.
Maybe ad some styles not "so girly". LOL

These are great! You may well be hearing from me. I'd love to do a spin off of the guitar bark cloth fabric design.

Here is my latest design... I am going to make my own pj's. Lets just say my husband doesn't fully appreciate the two piece flannel ones, so I will be making a more fun 1950's look night gown... If anyone want's this fabric in custom colors, it is easy for me to switch out the colors. The screen shot is a little blurry compared to the actual fabric... Here it is in red and pink

Hi LadyW, I sent you a message through the Spoonflower site wondering how to get a sample of the Mid-century Star Blast on Cream.
Thanks,
Martha

Hi... I changed the settings. Are you able to order a sample? The fabric comes in all different weights, so you can choose from a few thicknesses.

This design is not yet for sale, but send Ladywendolyn_ a message if you'd like to buy it.

These fabric designs are fantastic. I'll go back to the site and check them out when I'm ready to start interior sewing projects; I see a couple that would be perfect for me. For now I'm seeing the same message, the the design is not yet for sale.
