It is amazing just how much info is on the web now for any topic you can imagine. This forum looks to be a gold mine for vintage trailer enthusiasts, new and old. Thanks to the founders! I look forward to learning from all of you.
I am a builder, beekeeper and recently brought home a 1960 Airstream Overlander (#26DSS0394/WBC#4514) that I purchased over 15 years ago from the original owner. It is all original, but I have gutted to rewire, re-insulate, re-plumb, re-everything. Most of the original cabinetry will be reinstalled after a few repairs and refinishing. I've just restored the original Valient tankless water heater and can't wait for the first shower! I just read the photo tutorial...let's see if this works!
Two weeks ago I fell in love with a 1951 Spartan Royal Mansion (#33-51-3738)(yes, the one posted on SB Craigslist) and do not know yet what I will do with it, but would appreciate some feedback. I posted it on CL only to see what kind of response I would get "as-is", but would love to do a full restoration on this one as well. It could well take $50K in parts and labor to do this beast of a trailer and I would love to hear from any of you possible resale estimates. It is 95% complete and the photos that I posted admittedly do not give it justice. The bath is complete with corner sink and toilet. Subfloor under the bath will need replacement, but the rest is solid. The cabinetry is all there and mostly needs refinishing and fine tuning. I do have new sets of door hardware and the original cranks for the bedroom windows. The front lexan windows look to be about $1K to replace. www.TimelessTravelTrailers.com gave me this quote. Any other suppliers?
I love doing restoration work and have the experience and skills to do a great job. What are the downsides besides finding appreciative buyers?
