Ok, I posed the question in another thread whether a porta-a-potty was considered self-contained. Obviously the definition of self contained constitutes a grey and black holding tank and fresh water tanks. I feel rather self contained if I can potty in my trailer without emptying sewer on the ground and can collect my gray water for proper disposal. If I can camp on the side of the road and not pollute the environment, I call that self-contained. Here's my dilemma. Shasta Compacts were not designed to be self-contained. There are two future events, a NASCAR race and a music festival with camping which I would like to attend with my trailer. I believe there is an area for trailers which are not self contained at the NASCAR race with the tent campers, as well as a self-contained only area. There are no hook ups whatsoever, basically a parking lot and it specifically states that portable tanks are not allowed. However, the other venue has electric sites with no sewer (in a pasture but does state that RV sites are for self contained RV's. Now this venue has car camping, tent camping and woods camping. There are facilities. I believe the issue is with not having gray water and sewer emptying or spilling on the ground. Has anyone found a way to compensate for this? Is it possible to install the portable gray tanks in a semi-permanent way? I was thinking about strapping them under the under the trailer for when it is parked and removing them when it is in motion. As far the potty, uh, they don't need to know my potty business. The NASCAR venue has "inspectors." Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this plumbing/camping issue.

I have camped with my Shasta at music festivals. I prefer to camp with tent campers because in these cases their sites/area is much nicer. In this case, my trailer runs off the battery for electrical needs which I keep to a minimum....can do this for 4-5 days without a problem. My porta potty gets emptied in the facilities and I deal with my gray water as tent campers do. The RV's are in full sun stacked one on next to the other.
I guess my advice would be to hang with the tent campers and other non self contained folks, and figure out how to get your electrical needs dealt with. Do whatever tent campers are doing for their washing needs.

I don't think they are going to allow a trailer in the tent area or car camping area. I think I might be able to do the car camping area if I bought two spaces. And they are EXPENSIVE! Guess it depends on how bad I want to see the Doobie Bros. and camp in my trailer, too. My camping buddy has the ideal set up with the VW. Now I understand why they were so popular in there era.
